NASA Launches Rover to Mars

Discussion
Nov 27, 2011

On Saturday, NASA launched a rover toward Mars. It is said to be the biggest and best equipped of any robot sent into space. The rover, known as Curiosity, should reach Mars sometime next summer. It will search for even the smallest amount of life that may have once inhabited the planet. This is the first launch NASA has made to Mars in four years. The rover is mobile and nuclear powered. It holds ten scientific instruments that will sample soil and rocks and test them right then and there. The power source of the rover is 10.6 pounds of radioactive plutonium. The mission is costing $2.5 billion and will hopefully provide us with some answers about Mars.
