New York Socialite Perishes in Tragic Fire

The New York Almost Times Archives

--A fictional news item Written May 12th, 2010 by Adela based on events in The Eternal Ones by Kristen Miller

Mr. Morrow, Mr. Rosier, and Miss Snively had just returned from an event hosted by the Ouroborous Society showcasing the art of a Miss Marta Vega, a friend of Iain’s, a member of the society, and girlfriend of the late Jeremy Johns. It is interesting because Mr. Morrow was wanted for questioning on behalf of Jeremy Johns’ murder. His body was found yesterday, and Morrow is the last person he was with before he was reported missing. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were many lit candles inside the house, but a bottle of motor oil and a book of matches were found in the mailbox of the townhouse next-door. Any motives for arson are unknown, and there are no suspects.

This fire is suspiciously close to another story from the 1920’s, where, in that same house, New York socialite Constance Whitman and her fiancé, Ethan Evans, perished in a fire in a similar fashion. Upon further research, the New York Almost Times has found that Constance’s fiancé, Ethan, was the prime suspect in the murder of Dr. Augustus Strickland, founder of the very society that Ethan, Constance, Iain, and Haven were a part of. Both couples, Morrow and Snively and Evans and Whitman had bother been seen in Rome days before the fires that took most of their lives. Both had been planning to run away to Rome to marry. Three of the four perished in fires in the exact same house. For each, the only witnesses were a middle-aged mad who fit the description of Adam Rosier and then Beau.

Both scenarios seem surprisingly similar. The questions are, Do we believe that Evans and Whitman were the past lives of Haven and Iain? If so, then why was Adam Rosier present at both?, and How is that possible since the two happened about 90 years apart and he looked exactly the same? All of the photos that were taken in the 20’s and at the fire of last might, have been clipped out of the microfilm in the archives. What happened to link these two events? Was it arson? Are Constance and Ethan doomed to live the same fate over and over again for the rest of eternity? Who is Adam Rosier? What happened to Jeremy Johns and Augustus Strickland?

Early this morning at the restored historic house in the Mews, New York Socialite and notorious Playboy, Ian Morrow, was crushed by the burning roof that came down moments before he was about to jump from the second story window to safety. The only other people in the house at the time were Iain and a mysterious, dark-haired girl, suspected of being the girl seen with Morrow in pictures on an Italian blog a week before this event, and a maid, who ran out of the house the minute she smelled smoke, was unharmed. Our sources tell us that the girl, a Tennessee native named Haven Snively, was seen jumping from the window into the arms of a young man named Beau in front of the deceased celebrity. She escaped with a broken leg and other minor injuries, and was rushed to the nearest hospital. She is now in stable condition.

Adam Rosier, a member of the Ouroborous Society, was the only person who witnessed the entire thing from the ground. Mr. Morrow was also a member of this elite society, one that specializes in reincarnation and past lives, and Mr. Rosier says that he knew Iain well.

“It’s said to see him go so tragically. He was so young, so talented, and had so much potential.” Mr. Rosier said. When asked about details of the accident, he replied, “ Ms. Snively jumped, and Beau, whom I suppose is a long-time friend from back home, caught her. Iain was stepping out onto the sill when the roof caved in and broke the floorboards beneath his feet. He fell, and there was no chance that he survived a fall like that if he was covered in all of that smoldering rubble. Absolutely tragic.” No body has been found, but if it happened like Mr. Rosier described it, there was no chance that he survived, his body would have been burned to ashes underneath the fallen roof.
