No Friendly Chat in Chapters 3 and 4 of Their Eyes Were Watching God: PART 2
And we are back. This is a review for chapter 4 of the book ,Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston. In Chapter 3, we learn that Janie's real dream has been crushed. She is not going to fall back on her second option and that what makes her a woman. My guess is that, her first dream was a married woman, full of love and affection in her marriage, but since she did not get that, she is just an ordinary woman.
So basically in this chapter, Janie has a argument with her husband. He is calling her spoiled and what not, while she is trying to defend herself. A page of arguing goes by and she goes to do her business with the potatoes and within time, she sees a well dressed man approach her and starts a conversation with her. I mean, a friendly talk with a person who is passing by isn't so bad, now is it.
But this is no friendly chat. It is more of a flirt talk from the man to Janie. So this is how it went,
"'You behind a plow! You ain't got no mo' business wid uh plow than uh hog is got wid uh holiday! You ain't got no business cuttin' up no seed p'taters niether. A pretty doll-baby lak you is made to sit on de front porch and roch and fan yo'self and eat p'taters dat other folks plant just special for you.'
Janie laughed and drew out two quarts of syrup from the barrel and Joe Starks pumped the water bucket full of cool water. They sat under the tree and talked. He was going on down to the new part of Florida, but no hard to stop and chat. He later decided he needed a rest anyway. It would do him good to rest a week or two. Everyday after that they managed to meed in te scrub oaks across the road and talk about when he would be a big ruler of things with her reaping the benefits."
So this friendly chat went on for days and soon he offered her to come with him. It was just a offer that is up to her to decide on. Later on in chapter 4, she got into a argument again and that basically pulled her last strings and went off into the field and met up with Joe. She ran away from her husband to go with this new guy that she just met on the side of the road, that offered her a better life. We now see what happens here. Let's wonder what will happen now that she gets a new husband and all.

Dear Phillipe, I read your
Dear Phillipe,
I read your post. What I find funny is that you did not mention anything about the way Janie was treating Logan. The way that Logan reacts to everything shows that he has issues, self-confidence and all. The way Janie approached him the last time was highly rude and disrepectful to Logan. You should always leave a person with a little pride left, which Janie did not to with Logan. I stated this in my post, too.
You said that "she got into a argument again and that basically pulled her last strings and went off into the field and met up with Joe." Well, how do you know that that was not the last straw for Logan? She (Janie) took a swing at Logans pride, which no human should do to one another. Maybe he wanted her to leave. Did you think of that?
Your writing intrigues me, though I find your lack of thought disturbing. Try looking through the seeing glass (a direct reference to the sequel to the Alice In Wonderland book.) I look forward to attacking your work again next time...
