Nutritional buzz words

Discussion

Ever since we have become obsessed with health, the food industry has been obsessed with giving us the mirage of health. There have been several buzz words over the years like "high in fiber" or "fat free". The most recent being omega-3. This nutritious fatty acid has been found to have several benefits. Now it would be great if the food that claimed to have omega-3 actually had it, but the nutrient comes from expensive foods like fish. Instead companies are using the very less benefitial omega-3s from cheap food products.

The American Food and Drug Administration claims that it will act on these false advertisersments early in the next year. The European Union however is far into their battle against these nutritional lies. They will create a framework for what a product can claim, by what it actually has in it. I think it is about time that this is implemented in America. I would like to see food that is actually healthy instead of just taking the cheaper route and putting a healthy stamp on inferior products. We should be able to know if what we are eating is actually good for us, instead of just sounding good for us.
