Oh the many unknowns of the potatoe
For my English class I had to research a question of interest, so my topic of choice was potatoes. I wanted to know why everybody thought potatoes were so good, I love them and I was interested in why?
For starters I decided to look into what potatoes are made of, I thought that would be a big factor. So I googled it, and the first site I found was called ezinearticles.com, I read an article that said potatoes are 18% starch, this is important because starches provide the most easily accessed and used energy out of any carbohydrates, so one reason is they immediately help your body be productive. Next the article talked about water stating,
Depending on the variety of potato and where it was grown the water content of a potato is about 78%.
I was amazed, I had no idea that a potato was mostly water, but again that would explain why they are so good, our bodies need water so we like when we get easy access water along with easy access energy, together they allow our muscles to function.
The article then stated that the last 2-4% of the potato was made up of protein, vitamin C, and fats, again all three are very valuable resources for our bodies to function. Its no wonder our stomachs like potatoes.
I then tried to look up exactly why potatoes are so good, and the results consisted of thousands upon thousands of recipes. So I tried to specify my search and I got one answer,
because all carbs are good.
This would make sense because carbs, or carbohydrates, is the scientific name for sugar. Sugars are delicious, they are what our bodies crave because without them our bodies have no way of attaining energy, which results in our body not functioning and eventual death. So sugars are great, especially the "good" or healthy sugars.
