I this CNN opinion article, the author compares modern technology and government scandals alike with those of Geore Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984. Some examples of the relevance of Orwell's novel can be obviously seen in our new abreviated texting language and the use of surveillance by the government. Texting language and shorthand has infringed into everyday language, making expressions like "LOL" and "OMG" apart of daily conversation. Obviously there is no new dictionary and people aren't forced to use only texting shorthand when they speak, but our language has become more basic and modified. The USN governemnt has been under the spotlight lately for the NSA privacy scandals and Edward Snowden's leak. What the NSA Is doing is similar to the presence of telescreen's in Orwell's novel and the way Snowden was ostracized and expelled from the country is less intense, but similar to the vaporization of all rebels of the government.
