Without a doubt when stories of child molestation surface like Bernie Fine in the late 1970s and recently in 2011 Jerry Sandusky it is forever imprinted in their minds. The details of accusations against Sandusky are so deeply ingrained in the minds of Americans and truly impacted the sports world. Joe Paterno's eternal support through the scandal proved something about the fans of Penn State; that they are there through the thick and thin of their beloved football team. When a man who so betrays a simple moral standard, it was shocking to many why the fans would stick around and support Paterno.
With news coverage around the clock for weeks about the scandal on the news and sports channels it truly brought together an array of communities to stand up and decipher what is wrong or right. I think that is why the Penn State scandal was such a significant event. It brought together people of all ages and backgrounds to take a deeper look at our societal problems.
