Pink Slime?
I recently read an article about beef production in the United States. It talked about the production in Texas and how after an uproar about an ammonia-treated filler. The makers of “pink slime” were those being accused of using this product instead of 100% beef. However, according to the article federal regulators say that the product meets food safety standards and has been used in the industry for years. Yet, I was more interested in what would happen to the workers from this company. The article explained that beef products would be suspended in three plants, although the employees (around 200) will receive full salary and benefits for the time that the miss during the suspension. The business claims that they will draft a strategy for promoting business and addressing this uproar. There have been estimates for how much beef in the United States contains this, however an accurate number would be difficult to find because it is not labeled as an ingredient. It will be interesting to see how the company recovers and also if it affects the workers.
