In my photography class, we've been studying portraits quite a bit. One interesting thing I have learned is that the person doesn't always have to be smiling. I guess I have always thought of portaits as those uncomfortable awkward smiling ones that we take at school. One tip that I read is that "Not all portraits need to have a smile, capture the serious emotions too. Some of my favorite portraits have no hint of a smile in them, and they’re highly emotional." http://blog.epicedits.com/2007/12/10/16-inspirational-portrait-photography-techniques/
I think this picture that I took is a good example of this because even though she is not smiling and staring into the camera, her pose adds emotions and meaning.
