Religon Wars- Round 7. Voodoo

Now time for Voodoo. It isn't really a religion but its a belief system that has heavy ties to African countries and places in the Caribbean such as Puerto Rico and Jamaica. Voodoo, has rituals as well as a belief system behind it. I will do my best to inform you about what I know about Voodoo.

"Louisiana Voodoo, also known as New Orleans Voodoo, originated from the traditions of the African diaspora. It is a cultural form of the Voodoo religions which historically developed within the French, Spanish, and Creole speaking African-American population of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is one of many incarnations of African-based religions rooted in the West African Dahomean Vodou tradition and the Central African traditions. They became syncretized with the Catholic religion and Francophone culture of South Louisiana as a result of the slave trade. Louisiana Voodoo is often confused with – but is not completely separable from – Haitian Vodou and southeastern U.S. hoodoo. It differs from Haitian Vodou in its emphasis upon Gris-gris, voodoo queens, and Li Grand Zombi. This emphasis has marked the culture of Afro Diaspora, francophone Louisiana within the Western media. It was through Louisiana Voodoo that such terms as gris-gris (a Wolof term) and voodoo dolls were introduced into the American lexicon." Voodoo is a very vast, interesting thing. It has branched off of a lot of things and even so-called "Holy Religions."

"Voodoo has quite a following around the Caribbean, and Miami is as close to the Caribbean as the NCAA Tournament gets. Maybe a voodoo curse should be blamed for what happened to Arizona State's James Harden this weekend..." Voodoo has a lot to do with curses and hexes. And voodoo can be blamed for bad things happening. In the bayou of Louisiana, many bad things that happen there, are all blamed on Voodoo.

"A woman faces charges after a US baggage search found a human skull with teeth, hair and skin in her luggage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport..." Voodoo uses a lot of...strange items for worship.. such as straw dolls, and human heads. People don't usually question where some people get thing, but when weird things happen its all over the news. But granted, a human head is something quite strange. But what isn't these days?

Now a synopsis. Voodoo is very deep within old rituals. The rituals may seem confusing and a bit complicated but that is every religion. On a positive note, voodoo is interesting and a lot different from others. Negatives, people judge and get very confused about what it really it.
