rise of CRIME RATE

Discussion
Oct 28, 2012

Countries from all around the world have to deal with immigration. People seem to always be wanting to leave their countries for somewhere “better”. The United States of America though has the highest population of illegal immigrants in the world. The 2010 census counted 10 million illegal immigrants, yet there are some scholars that believe the number could be as high as 13 million. This count of 10 million people are all illegal immigrants which mean that they choose to skip the legal process of becoming a citizen. An immigrant is someone who took legal action to become a citizen. On the Opposing viewpoints website there seems to be two sides fighting about if illegal immigration is leading to higher crime rates.
The side that argues that illegal aliens are the cause for higher crime rates. Do have some data to try and back there viewpoints. They say that out of all the people in prison today illegal aliens make up 2.5 percents of them. They then use another statistic and say that of all the people in the country illegal aliens make up 4 percent of the population. Therefore when you compare the two pieces of data it shows that more than half of illegal aliens go to jail at one point.
The people on the other side of the debate, say that the good that illegal aliens do outweighs the bad. They also use a static about illegal aliens in jail. Theres says that illegal aliens only make up 1 percent of the population in prisons and jail. They then say that this is such a small percent of the prison population that you can't make a case that they raise crime rate.
When looking from the outside in on this debate I am just going to say one thing. You have to take the geographical location into consideration before you start to tear apart this debate. Such that people who live in California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Florida are going to have to deal with more illegal aliens on a daily basis than people in Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. So a persons location may have an effect on what side of the debate they are on.

Dear Dexter,

I to have done some research on illegal immigration on opposing viewpoints and I do agree that this subject in particular is very very touchy indeed! I however was not familiar with the crime rate statistics and was alarmed at the possibility that nearly half of a illegal immigrants go to prison. with a statistic like 2.5 percent in prison, it makes you wonder just how much jail space that entails. On the other hand this country was founded on people coming here for a new life. Your article is very interesting and added great insight into my very little knowledge on that I have this subject.

Sincerely,

Charlie Howard
