This picture really caught my eye for several reasons. Because of the angle of the camera to the leg of the table, it looks like the leg is piercing through the ground. The flash helps with this as well because you cannot really see where the pole ends and the floor beings. It makes the picture really sharp and looks like the ground is being stabbed but the leg of the table. The angle makes the image much stronger and looks more evil than safe.

More evil than safe? Morbid

More evil than safe? Morbid my dear. Anyway, this picture was posted up on the wall of my English classroom and I had no idea what it was. I saw "Sharp" and I thought it was a knife. But I digress, I like this photo. It is interesting in how it looks like the table is stuck into the floor, like it is going through. What time of day did you take this picture and with what kind of camera? It is very nice. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Dear AnnieB

I recently read your post," Sharp," It is mind opening that you though and highlighted certain angle to which objects look warped or can be thought of in an abstract sense. According to your image and above post it's obvious that it's a table leg. However , you've  mentioned that you can see the table leg as a pole that  can be seen that keep going on," you cannot really see where the pole end and the floor beings," as you say.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: "The angle make the image much stronger and really looks evil than safe." I think this is sort of weird, your word choice, specifically thte word"evil." What I am wondering about is how can such an image like this, "sharp" look evil, strong, or even safe. This image seems more to do with being vast in dimensions.

Your post reminds me of the many times I look at something weird  or even something very common and can find multiple dimensions in them; can see them in various lights differently. Thanks for your writing. I look forward seeing what you write the next time since you wrote about something as common as a table leg and made that appear interesting to have a small chat about.

I love this picture as well. It does look like the table leg is stabbing the floor and I love pictures that have a basis in perspective as well. I also like that the metal leg shows the legs of another chair. It reminds me of when you have a pen close to paper that's been written or typed on. If the pen has a metal tip, and you place the tip close to the words, the words on the page get distorted by the curve of the metal.

I did want to touch on something you said. By the phrase " really looks more evil than safe."

What exactly did you mean by that? I saw it and it threw me off a little. What do you think looks so evil about it and what would you change about it to make it look more "safe"?

AnnieB,

This picture caught my attention immediately!  You definitely have some great picture-taking skills.  May I suggest pursuing something in the photography field as you go on to college?  I feel you'd succeed very well.  But anyways, I agree with your statement that the viewer "cannot really see where the pole ends and the floor begins."

You had a few spelling and grammatical errors throughout, so the only suggestion for improvement that I have for you is to spell check everything once or twice before finalizing.  Thank you so much for this great picture and explanation though!  I am eagerly awaiting your next post to see what you have found next!

Sincerely,

Annie B-

This is a very different but cool looking picture. What caught my eye was the detail in the tile flooring and light reflected near the end of the table leg. Next, i noticed the reflection on the table leg with the mirror surface which is a small detail. However, what do you mean when you say "evil than safe" ?? Thanks for the picture and insight, hope to hear from you.

Hi Annie, I have to say that

Hi Annie,

I have to say that this is quite an interesting image. I know that our "photo days" in class can be kind of a hassle in the computer lab if you're not in a creative state of mind - sometimes, you have to really work to find an interesting enough subject. However, using lighting and angle techniques, you found a subject that was more than adequate. There are quite a few aspects of this piece that must be taken into account, and I'm suprised that you incorporated so many so easily.
