Should the drinking age be lowered?
There have been many cases in which minors or people who have gotten in trouble with the law because of under aged drinking. This topic intrigues me because there have been studies where countries that don’t have a drinking age or don’t necessarily enforce their drinking age have less cases in which DUY’s are involved or severe crashes due to drunk driving. I’ve wanted to search information to see if these statistics are true.
Here, in the America with the drinking age being 21, young adults have grown up with the perception to drink to get drunk when given the chance to consume it. Other nations, where drinking isn’t prohibited, kids grow up to respect alcohol and not abuse it in the way that would harm their body. As John McCardell Jr., an esteemed historian of the American South states in Time magazine: “Treating alcohol differently helps turns it into a holy grail of adulthood” (John Cloud).

I approve
Hell yeah it should be lowered ... I'm Irish I need it ..... Anyway children and minors would learn and have there own responsibilities in their own hands also it will teach them first hand!!!
They should lower the
They should lower the drinking age
Touchy Subject
Should the drinking age be lowered? I suppose it varies depending on the adolescents themselves. It has been common knowledge that more rules mean more incentive to break them. However, irresponsible drinking leads to irresponsible actions.
The drinking age should not be lowered.
The drinking age should not be lowered. Alchol affect in negative ways to your health. It cause growth problem, mental problem, and physical problem. For example, if you drink alchol too much, you cannot think well and move well.If you start to drink alchol since when you are young, it will change your life in future. Many people lose their lives because of alchol. Alchol also could cause alcholism and drunk driving. More specifically, over 1.41 million driviers arrested in 2010 because of drunk driving.
You should learn about all of the facts about excessive drinking. It can sometimes
be a difficult experience, but always remember that it will be worth it
in the long run. Alcohol has many negative effects on your body that you
may not even be aware of and it's extremely important to realize the
damage that alcohol can actually inflict on both you and your loved
ones.
I do not agree
I don't think that the drinking age should be lowered. Even though people under 21 drink all the time it still shouldn't be lowered because people under the age of 21 probably wouldn't drink responsibly. When you don't drink responsibly, people can get can get badly injured or even die. People drinking under the age of 21 can lead to people/teens to become addicted to the alcohol. When they are under 21 and they become addicted, its going to be hard for them to stop. Why should they ruin their education/college for just alcohol? It's not worth it. Also, most people who drink under age binge drink (drinking to get drunk). They don't know how much alcohol they are really consuming and they can get alcohol poisoning and die. Therefore I do not think it is a good idea to lower the age of drinking.
To some extent I agree with
To some extent I agree with your argument. Of course, if you don't drink in a responsible way people can really cause injury to themselves and maybe even the people around them, but just as I stated in my discussion people who live in other nations where drinking at a younger age isn't exactly prohibited, they have grown up with the mind set to respect alcohol. When it comes to alcohol addiction circumstances vary, so saying that under aged drinking is the cause of addiction it's a very valid statement. Maybe in some cases, but not all. In America college students tend to binge drink because we didn't grow up having the mind set to respect the use of alcohol.
Drinking Age
Many teenages have already been exposed to alcohol by friends and sometimes even family. At the age of 16 most teenages get their permit, 17 they get their licenses and are able to drive friends around. If the drinking age is lowered to say 19, teens have to be more responsible to not drink and drive. That would be putting a ton of responsibiltiy on them to do the right thing; now and then people need a wake up call. You see on the news everyday about drunk driving accidents and lowering the drinking age would do anything to help it or hurt it. I am not against nor for lowering the drinking age but the age was changed in the 1980's to 21 trying to lower the highway deaths, clearly this isn't working. If teens are able to drink I believe they would be more responsible about it because they wouldn't have to sneak around drinking at friends house or somewhere they dont know; having to drive home. Giving teenages the benefit of the doubt and giving them the chance to prove themselves responsible would probably make them more responsible. There are many people fighting for the drinking age to be lowered especially college students.
While it's true that the
While it's true that the drinking age is lower in other countries, I do not think that the drinking age should be lowered here in the United States. While I have plenty of underage friends who choose to drink, that doesn't mean it is the right thing to be doing. I don't think that adolescents under the age of 21 are anywhere near mature enough to be responsible enough to be drinking. Also, our brains are at a crucial developing stage during teenage and adolescent years, and excessive alcohol can greatly decrease how much our brains grow and the functions they develop. Drinking is a huge social "game" of sorts, and kids in the United States are not usually very responsible about it. Underage teenagers who are drinking in the United States are not just having one or two beers as a social experience; they are going to parties and getting completely trashed to try and fit in and go completely crazy. There are also countless cases of college freshman and sophomores who have died of alcohol related hazing incidents. Drinking is not a game, and I think lowering the drinking age will simply perpetuate the amount of drunk driving crashes and deaths, arrests due to intoxication, and hazing related deaths and injuries.
i dont think the drinking age
i dont think the drinking age should be lowered because even with the drinking age we have now still causes trouble. The drinking age here is 21 and still it has been causing problems recently. If anything, we should raise the drinking age to 24, or 25. All drinking does is make people do actions they wouldnt have done in real life. For example, drunk people might have slurred speach and walk weridly. That kind of stuff could make them end up arrested and caged behind bars. What i am saying is we should not lower the legal drinking limit because not only is it bad for our health, its bad for our surroundings.
I think the drinking age
I think the drinking age should be lowered. Not tremendously but to nineteen. At nineteen, you are in your first year of college. By that time, you realize all of the stupid things you did in high school were wrong and I think once you reach nineteen, you are a lot more mature. You start to say to yourself, "Now I'm taking a step forward, moving away from home, I need to take more responsibilities." By the age of eighteen, you are considered an adult but you're still in high school and I don't think people should be drinking until after high school. At 14-16 everybody thinks it's so cool to drink until someone needs to be rushed to the hospital to get their stomach pumped. This all depends on the maturity level of people. Some people mature at a very young age while there are still people acting like immature little 2 year olds at 15 years of age. Until everyone is mature enough to drink responsibly and understand how much alcohol the body can handle, they shouldn't be drinking. I believe by nineteen years of age, you take in all those stupid things you did in your high school years and you think bigger and are more mature.
I think this topic is a very
I think this topic is a very serious one. Some think the drinking age should be lowered, while others disagree. I think lowering the drinking age might be beneficial. Most kids drink when they are younger than 21 anyway, and a lot of kids end up getting in trouble for it. I think 19 would be an appropriate drinking age because at that point you are out of high school, and are hopefully more responsible. Many kids start drinking at really young ages because they think it is cool, and want to get drunk. If the drinking age was 19, maybe less kids would start younger since they wouldn't have to wait that long to legally get it. By the time you are 19 I think your body can handle consuming alcohol responsibly. There is no difference between your body from 19 to 21 which means yours body can still handle it. I think as long are you are a responsible person, it should be ok to legally drink at age 19.
