Silhouettes

One of our projects this week was to take a picture of yourself, and create a silhouette with it on Picnik.  It was amazing to found out that you don’t need expensive photo-editing software, like Photoshop, to make a decent silhouette picture.  Another amazing thing I found out was how easy it was.

To make a silhouette on Picnik, first upload a picture.  Next, click on the “Create” tab.  Scroll down the list to the left until you find “Sandbox Effects.”  It should be collapsed, so click on it to make it expand. Scroll down to the “” effect, and click on it.  Mess around with the black slider a little bit, until your face is mostly covered in black, but the background is mostly white.  You’re looking for a good balance between the two.  Then, scroll back up and go to the “Doodle” tool.  Draw white where the background is still too dark, and draw black on the face where it is still too white.  Then, click on the “Save and Share” tab, and save it to your computer. It’s pretty awesome stuff.  Here are two pictures -- the first is the original, and the second is the Picnik-created silhouette.
