Soccer

A subject that interests me is soccer. I’ve been playing soccer since I was little. I now play on a soccer team every Sunday here in Ramona. I know a lot about soccer and am interested in knowing more about the history of soccer.

I went to the internet and researched the topic. I found an article on www.athleticscholarships.net. The article was called “The History of Soccer”. After reading this article, I learned that The Romans played a game that somewhat resembled modern soccer. The early Olympic games in Rome featured twenty-seven men on a side who completed so vigorously that two-thirds of them had to be hospitalized after a fifty-minute games. The writer also told that soccer is the most popular sport in the world and for the last World Cup “an estimated 33 million people around the world for almost 27 days. This makes soccer, the most watched single sports event in the world”.

After reading this article, I feel I know a lot more about soccer. I am going to keep playing it and want to learn even more about its history.
