The title of this book we are reading is called "A Piece Of Cake" written by Cupcake Brown. This book is a memoir of Cupcakes life. It is a book about her life, the drugs she used, the struggles and obstacles she went through growing up. She tells us about every thing she did, her secrets and deepest thoughts are written in this book. The themes that i would identify in the book so far are Drugs, sex, crimes, everyday struggle to survival on your own.
So far in the book Cupcake is still using drugs with her boyfriend Tommy, she wasn't working or doing anything but just drugs. Tommy told her about the idea of her finding a job so people won't see her as an addict or a crackhead who all she does is get high and use drugs. She was thinking about it and she got to the point where she knew it was not a bad idea. But for her to find a job she could't talk "hood" anymore, she had to talk proper like a white person. She also needed a resume of her work history so people could see where she has worked at and her Education history. Tommy was a man who spoke proper, like the white people basically, he offered her to helping her in learning how to speak right and not sound so hood. At first she wasn't liking the idea but as more people thought she was not going to be able to do it, the more she wanted to show them that they were wrong and that she was able to change, that she was born a ghetto nigga BUT she wasn't planing on staying like that her whole life. She was really up for the change, so as she got better in talking proper she went off to find a job, and she found it in a title company as a word processor, her co-workers were cool and even one of them would give her drugs in the bathroom. But her motivation to show people that she is not a crackhead and that she actually works and speaks right like white people got her achieving all these things in her life.
I connect this book to the world. There are millions of people that use drugs as their everyday. You can see these people in the street and think that they are normal like us, that they are clean from drugs like us. There was a person who lived in my building, everyday i would leave to school that person would leave off to work, with his tie on, suit and coffee on his hand, looking real important. I was with the idea that he was a hard working man, who all he seemed to do was work and work. But everyday he would argue with his fiance and you could hear screams and things dropping on the floor, to the door slamming and wall punching. I saw it as a regular couple with arguments. One day i went inside my building and there was cops everywhere, his apartment door was open and as i walked up the stairs he was there laying on the floor, then i was told her was dead and it was an overdose of cocaine, that he used it everyday and that day he just over did it. This book reminds me of that time, every time i read this book i think of when i used to hear him scream but then leave always on time and looking important everyday in the mornings.
To me this book is interesting, i had really never read a book like this. Sometimes in some parts of the book i kind of think that some of the things she did may not be true because of how surprising the things that happen in this book are. Her life was all drama and drama, drugs and happy to sad times. But other than that i believe is a good book for the people that know how to think, what i mean is that this book describes how she used drugs, she tells us how she would cook it and smoke it or sniff it. It describes drugs in a way that if you got a person that is immature and does not know how to think they could actually easily get influenced to trying drugs, but i doubt that happens.
