"Stand Out"

I saw this photo as I was scrolling through Boston.com. The website has photographs from the landslide in Zhouqu, China. All of the pictures are filled with an emotional energy, including this one. The lone girl standing on a pile of debris emits a number of emotions from sadness to a hope for the future that everything will once again be rebuilt. Thats partly why I love this photograph, just the pure emotion within it. On a more technical note, I enjoy the use of the focus on her and how the background is blurry. Although this most likely wasn't planned, the contrast of her red sweater against the darker colors of the background people really allows her to pop. I think that the inclusion of the debris in front of the girl adds a nice frame around her.
