Stem Cell Research and Morality (Continued)/ Federal Funding

Discussion
Sep 27, 2010

As an addition to a previous post, I re-researched Stem Cells, and found that one of the biggest issues pertaining to this currently is that of federal funding. There are those who believe that Stem Cell should not be researched for any variety of reasons, and then those who believe the government should fund the research.  In the Bloomberg Businessweek, writer William McQuillen quotes the Department of Justice in saying,

“Disruption of ongoing research will result in irreparable setbacks and, in many cases, may destroy a project altogether,” the department wrote in a filing today with the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington. Arguments are set for Sept. 27.

However, McQuillen also states that opposers of federal funding say,

"a ban won’t have any permanent impact on the research and should remain in effect while the federal government appeals."

The debate on Stem Cell research as a whole continues, as such issues as federal funding are also struggling to be resolved.
