The street is fair game

Our school works off of a so called " parking system". A system that is supposed to award the deserving senior and whoever he or she may drive with. But this year seems to be worse than ever. I'm not exactly speaking for myself at the moment because we park out front of school, but i've heard of and seen a rather high number of cases where students, seniors especially are basically hiking to and from school. I have sympathy for those who paid park up by McGillis school and twelve-hundred-something east, or just above free parking. They say the more people you have in your car the closer you get right? Well, not to question the morals of our angelic student body, but i'm sure some people aren't really driving six kids to school everyday. I myself signed a seniors form a couple years back so that they could spare themselves the work out every morning.

Maybe i'm not informed enough, but I don't see why we need parking permitsto park in neighborhoods. It's not like we're in the heart of a city parking on main streets and in front of businesses. These are houses we're talking about. I don't get ticketed for parking in front of my friends houses or my own. I don't see the reasoning in writing students up because heaven forbid we had to park on the opposite side of the road, just so that we're not later than we'd normally be by taking the time to  park "correctly".
"The city will ticket cars without permits or parked illegally including in the bus zone. With the permit and a $54 fee, the student will receive an assigned parking place on a street near the school. Priority is given to students who carpool and to students in the order in which they were received. For students who drive only occasionally, there is limited open parking between 700 and 800 South on 1000 East. On other streets, student cars will be ticketed by the city, the school, or both." - Judge website

So if the so called "system" doesn't exactly work, then I think we should just not have one. My solution would be first come first served. I say the street is fair game. It's more of an incentive really; come to school a little bit earlier and save yourself the shin splints of walking up that massive hill. I don't need a parking pass or our lovely deans to tell me where to park. I understand that there are situations concerning the city and neighbors and such, but as long as we're all parked legally I don't think there is any need to pay 54 dollars(that excludes the 25 we payed in the summer) just so I can leave my car somewhere while I get an education. Come on, we're already paying thousands of dollars to go to Judge.

Dear Emma,

I completely agree with your post about parking.  I am also one of those seniors who gets to enjoy the lovely trek up the hill every day and especially when it is twenty degrees outside, I don't exactly enjoy it.  The few times I have parked out of my spot, I seem to get a ticket every time, not only by the city, but also by our school.  I liked your statement that, "I don't see the reasoning in writing students up because heaven forbid we had to park on the opposite side of the road, just so that we're not later than we'd normally be by taking the time to  park "correctly". "  It seems like our school should be focusing on bigger problems than whether or now we are parking in our correct location.

Emma, All i can say is amen.  I agree that this year it seems like most of the seniors have parking spots on 1200 east and at the bottom of the hill. My favorite sentence and one that i completely agree with is, "Well, not to question the morals of our angelic student body, but i'm sure some people aren't really driving six kids to school everyday"(haha!). As i walk up the entire hill I see underclassman park their cars and comfortably take two steps to the door, but whose following them? Maybe one or two passengers at the most.  I agree that "I don't need a parking pass or our lovely deans to tell me where to park", I'd rather have the city tell me where to park if it comes down to that because at least I know all is fair. Again I don't understand how parking can double in one year, sometimes  I feel a little suspicious of where the money is really gonig because, as you said, "as long as we're all parked legally I don't think there is any need to pay 54 dollars(that excludes the 25 we payed in the summer) just so I can leave my car somewhere while I get an education. Come on, we're already paying thousands of dollars to go to Judge". Wonderful post Em.
