Tattoos!

Discussion

From getting and giving marker "tattoos" to sitting next to my friend while she got 5 black stars inked in different places on her body, tattoos are something I've always been interested in. I definitely plan on getting one, though I have no idea where or what. However, I know a lot of people (including my mom) who are very disproving of this idea and question why anyone would want to get something permanent on themselves. To be honest, it's mostly just because I can.

I think that tatoos are fine as long as you are smart about what you get and where you put them (so employers can't see them and would still be willing to hire you). I knew a girl who got "BITE ME" on the inside of her lip, even though it's not something that I would get, it was in a place that no one could see, at least she didn't get it on her hand or something.

Tattoos can have a lot of emotional significance or can just be there because the design is cool. Travis Barker (the drummer of Blink-182) covered his body with tattoos to force himself to pursue music because he knew that his career outlook would be pretty limited if he was covered head to toe in ink.

"I tattooed my body so I couldn't fall back on anything. I purposely did that so I couldn't get a normal job and live a normal life. I did it so I had to play music." Link.

I admire him for pushing himself to do what he knew he was capable of, and each tattoo he got helped him get to where he is today. A lot of things people worry about with tattoos is the regret, say 20 years from now. I think as long as you don't get something stupid (such as a boyfriends name), there's nothing to regret. Anyways if you really start to hate your tattoo there is laser tattoo removal which is extremely effective and there is only a 5% chance of scarring.

Hello Hannah King,

I totally agree with you. Tattoos are so hot. I love how you can express yourself through tattoos and I love seeing new ones that no one has ever really done before. I myself plan on getting tattoos as soon as I turn 18 which shall be this Sunday and I cant wait. I plan on getting a key tattoo on my neck to represent that opening any door as possible.

In response to you saying that people shouldnt get anything that is stupid or foolish, I totally agree. I think that people should get something that will mean something to them as they age. For example a tree can mean so many things as you go through life.

I found it really interesting that Travis Barker did that just so he would be pushed to pursue that music career of his. I have always loved Blink 182 and Travis Barkers drumming skills. He is incredibly talented so I really enjoyed seeing you post this.

Thanks so much for your post and I look forward to seeing more posts from you in the future. =)

Hannah I really enjoyed your post and the honesty you showed.  This article was significant to me because I got my first tattoo in December 2009.  It hurt so bad but it was something I got to remind me of a time in my life and it is extremely emotionally connected to me.  I disagree with people who get tattoos because they think it will look good or they just like the idea of a tattoo.  I think the only way to do it is if it means something to you and everytime you look at it you are glad you have it on your body.  You said you wanted a tattoo just because you can, just don't rush it.  Think about what you want and put meaning behind it.  Sketch some designs and wait until you found one you will never regret.  I knew mine would hurt really bad because the ribs are supposed to be the most sensitive spot, but I knew that the meaning behind it meant that no matter how painful, it didn't matter.  Be careful with what you get and make sure you LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  But yeah, tattoos are hot, get one.

Hannah, I loved your tattoo

Hannah,

I loved your tattoo post and after the wonderful tattoos you have given me in class, I am honestly considering getting one. I believe, like you, that tattoos are perfectly acceptable "as long as you are smart about what you get and where you put them." The hard part is being that smart. Often times, I believe people rush into getting their tattoos and don't really think about what they are doing. For example, my cousin, Chris, just spent thousands of dollars getting three tattoos removed - three names of three old girlfriends. His fiance said she would't marry him until the tattoos were taken off. Therefore, like you said, getting names of boyfriends/girlfriends tattooed on, or getting tattoos in places that could prevent you from getting jobs is probably not so smart.

After reading your post, I decided to look into the cost of ta too removal for those "not so smart tattoos." According to the Life-Touch Laser Cosmetics Site, ta too removal depends on the size of the tattoo, the type of ink used, and the number of treatments required for the tattoo to fade. According to one testimonial, a woman had a four inch by four inch tattoo. It took 6 treatments at $200 per treatment to completely fade the tattoo. That's $1200 to remove her "not so smart tattoo."

Thanks for your post Hannah! It was very interesting and I am sure that I will completely think through where I get my tattoo and exactly what I will get.

Dear Hannah

I enjoyed reading your Discussion "Tattoos!" because i am currently writing about tattoos and i want to know people opinion about tattoos and reasons why they get inked.I personally like tattoos some how is like another way of expressing your feelings. A lot of people are against tattoos like if is something really bad, tattoos doesn't change nothing its just like a birthmark except you wasn't born with it.

Once sentence you wrote that stands out for me is " I think as long as you don't get something stupid (such as a boyfriends name), there's nothing to regret." Getting your boyfriends name is no stupid, it makes it stupid if you only been with him for months or 1 or 2 years. I my self have my boyfriends name and my name, We have been together since 2007.Five years together and i recently got his name on me and mine in my wrist i kind of regret getting it in my wrist because of jobs and what not, but other then that i do not regret getting his name. I am looking forward to out future.

Another sentence that also caught my attention was " I think that tatoos are fine as long as you are smart about what you get and where you put them (so employers can't see them and would still be willing to hire you)." I so agree with this because a lot of jobs you have to look professional maybe not even but just have in mind give good looks even though i don't think having tattoos are a bad thing unless you have like something inappropriate.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because i like to see peoples opinion especially on somethings i question my self about. I don't really care what people think but i would like to keep in mind what people dislike and like.

Heh Hannah I agree tattoos

Heh Hannah

I agree tattoos are amazing . It allows you to express your self but be carefu.i Got my first one on my 16th birthday =] and i am now 18 and i have 10 there very addicting. I get one for every milestone in my life.Like when i felt i was free and i had over come something personal and i still did what i wanted and did'nt let my emotions get the best of me.i Think if you get a tat it should be more then important it should be something you want to wake up to everyday.I basicly have collage of all the things that mean something to me.Just be careful.

"so employers can't see them and would still be willing to hire you). "i agree with this quote because all of mine are on my body noplace where they can be seen because i have seen people miss allot of opportunity's because they have tattoos on there hands or neck. Its not professional.
