The movie Project X shows the epitome of a wild party. Three teenagers throw a crazy party with plenty of drugs, alcohol, and sex. When I saw the movie, I was appalled by the lack of plot. It was definitively not worth my $8.50. I also thought it was completely unrealistic because the teenagers had barely any consequences to throwing the party. But I must admit it glorified partying and I could see how someone would want to be apart of something like that. So when I heard that Project X parties were happening around the nation, I was not surprised. But I was surprised to learn that one teen was killed in one of these parties. Apparently a man took out his gun and shot for no reason. You know that society is pretty bad when people have lost their self-control and brains for that matter.

Reality Vs. Fiction

Dear Elizabeth:

I loved your post, “Teen Killed at Project X Inspired Party,” because I think that your topic is something that needs to be addressed in today’s society. It's absolutely ludicrous that someone would risk their entire life and future just for entertainment. You have a great mind-set about movies and how they set a lot of people up for failure. Many teenagers end up trying ridiculous things that they see/hear in movies, videos, and songs. It is a fact that teenagers are easily influenced by the most appalling things. One sentence you wrote that stands out to me is : “ I also thought it was completely unrealistic because the teenagers had barely any consequences to throwing the party.” I think this is important because many teenagers lack the ability to separate reality from fiction. They never seem to realize that the kids in the movies are just reading a script, and there are no “real” consequences.

Another sentence that I found interesting was: “ You know that society is pretty bad when people have lost their self-control and brains for that matter.” This stood out for me because I think this is something that many need to consider. A lot of people end up loosing their self-values and morals just for entertainment purposes; however, it is not worth loosing your entire life over.

Your post reminds me of a lot of my middle-school friends. A lot the kids that attended my middle-school have turned to drugs. I was appalled to find out how so many of my “friends” were influenced by the idea of drinking and smoking at such a young age. A majority of them were influenced by music videos that stress alcohol and weed. If there were more teenagers like you, more lives would be saved, and today’s society would be a better place.

Thanks for you writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because your topic is something that I can closely relate to. I hope other teenagers start to think about their futures, and realize the thin line between reality and fiction. I can not wait to see your progress and how your view on this topic may alter as you mature.
