Thanksgiving
My family is not the typical traditional family that sits down every Thanksgiving to multitudes of food choices such as turkey, mash potatoes, and gravy. Rather, we are the family that chooses every year if we are in the mood for a traditional Thanksgiving meal or just family time. Last year the day of Thanksgiving my entire family went skiing and came home to a big stew complete with family game night. This year we decided to do a traditional Thanksgiving with our friends. I used to not like Thanksgiving dinner. I didn't get into the fact of stuffing our faces with foods I barely enjoyed and then feeling so full that nobody wanted to do anything but lounge around. But this year was different, we had a traditional meal but i realized that even though my family does not usually like turkey and gravy it is tradition. It is tradition to sit at a table full of food and feel thankful that my dad can provide for us and the warmth of the laughter and fills the empty air of the dining room. It is not a tradition for our family but it is a generations tradition that joins everyone together in thankfulness for one day. I didn't realize how much my family truly means to me until I sit down in that room full of laughter and feel thankful I am still living under my parent's guidance and I didn't have to travel hundreds of miles to be with them. The busy traffic of American life hinders my appreciation that I should show everyday. On Thanksgiving it gives me an opportunity to be truly thankful for who I am and the people who have contributed to my life. I now will vote to have a traditional Thanksgiving every year because it not only brings my family together but I feel a part of a nationwide community who for one day can sit down and enjoy each other's company.
