Thanksgiving the Day of Death
This Thanksgiving my family didn't have the traditional turkey at the center of our table. We decided to have crab instead due to the fact that it's a family favorite and my sister and I are vegetarians.
Did you know that over 45 million turkeys are slaughtered every year? In my research on Thanksgiving turkeys I was shocked to find that NBC blocked PETA's great ad, "Grace", portraying the truth of these innocent turkeys. This ad would have been played during breaks of the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade.
I always like to tell my friends that if every person in America new exactly where their meat came from we would be a vegetarian country. This ad demonstrates it perfectly! After hearing how horribly the animals are treated they don't want to touch that turkey.
Turkeys have the ability to be loving pets as stated on the website I researched. "When not forced to live on filthy factory farms, turkeys spend their days caring for their young, building nests, foraging for food, taking dust baths, preening themselves, and roosting high in trees. They relish having their feathers stroked and like to chirp, cluck, and gobble along to their favorite tunes."
There are alternatives to the delicious turkey flavor or you could even substitute the main dish like my family did.
Happy Holidays :)
