TriColor Violas/ Heartsease
Beautiful and Small,
Like a butterfly with a heart behind it,
Bright and full of color,
Purple light and dark,
Yellow like the Sun,
And white like the clouds above.
Beautiful and Small,
Like a butterfly with a heart behind it,
Bright and full of color,
Purple light and dark,
Yellow like the Sun,
And white like the clouds above.

Pretty Purple Flowers
Dear Cynthia,
Thanks for this poem about Tricolor Violas. I really like how you described the flower as a butterfly. I also like how you compared it with the sun and the clouds.
I did some research into these flowers and they are called Tricolor Violas. They are also called Heartsease. They are also called Johnny Jump Ups.
"Viola tricolor is one of many plant species containing cyclotides. These small peptides have proven to be useful in drug development due to their size and structure giving rise to high stability. One such cyclotide, vitri A, found in Viola tricolor is said to contain cytotoxic characteristics. This feature means that it could be used to treat cancers."
The Tricolor Violas is also used as a medicine. Its a useful plant and its purple.
All of this inspires me to write a poem in response to your poem. My poem is also about a flower. I hope you write more poems.
Viola Tricolors!
Dear Cynthia,
Thank you for this poem about the Viola Tricolor flower. I really like how you used the literary techniques like similes amd metaphors in your poem. It added to my mental image of these flowers.
I did some research into these flowers, and I found that the Heartsease flower (or Viola Tricolor) has been used in two different ways. It is one of many plants containing cyclotides, which is used in the development of drugs:
"Viola tricolor is one of many plant species containing cyclotides. These small peptides have proven to be useful in drug development due to their size and structure giving rise to high stability."

These cyclotides contain Vitra A, which is used in medicines for cancers, which is why this flower is valuable, "...said to contain cytotoxic characteristics. This feature means that it could be used to treat cancers.

There seems to be some evidence that this flower was the "supposed" magic flower that caused trouble in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. These flowers are also known as wild pansies or Johnny Jump-Ups.
All of this inspires me to write a poem of my own in response to your poem.
