The Unhappiest State

Discussion
Sep 20, 2011

In early 2011, when BusinessInsider.com analyzed which states should be the unhappiest, they looked at several factors.  Details like the percent of people with diabetes, or those obese were analyzed.  Also, they looked at the percentage of those who exercise and eat produce regularly and the amount of debt, average income and employment.

States like New York and Nevada were in the bottom of ten.  But the number one unhappiest state turned out to be Rhode Island.  The main reason found for this unhappiness is the financial crisis the state is recently facing.  Many are unemployed and not finding any work.  And many of those who do have some form of job, aren’t making enough to support themselves and their families.

When the state was surveyed, they blamed much of their unhappiness with the state on the General Assembly, but also Governor Carcieri, whom they blame much of their financial stress on.  It is quite obvious that something needs to be done to pull Rhode Islanders out of their current rut, but what?
