I created the Scratch animation Unit 3 Project as my response to a project to create an interactive ethical story. An ethical story is a situation presented to define a moral for a dilemma. This is meant to have a situation with two possible ending outcomes. These two outcomes are created to show the public the difference between wrong and right choices.

My story is about a miller that meets a stranger in a forest, who happens to be the Devil. The stranger says if the miller promises some, he will make the miller and his family rich. The miller comes home and tells his wife about the encounter, telling the miller he just made a bargain with the Devil. The evil keeps on coming to get the miller’s daughter, but is unable to retrieve her. Then the Devil says to cut off the daughter’s hands, or the Devil will take the miller instead. This is where the miller decides if he should cut off his daughter’s hands, or let the Devil take him.

My story was inspired by the idea of using a fairy tale, but none we never grew up reading, like Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. My project, based on the Girl Without Hands, seemed to be the right story for me to use, seeing as how not only was it a fairy tale, but also it was a new story that not many people hear about. Also, you notice how none of these stories involve the character's family making any decisions that will affect the character's life later on, so I thought why not have the father or the mother make the decision instead?

I think I was unsuccessful in creating my story because when I uploaded my animation, the part where you make the decision wasn't working. But when I tried out the part in my many run-through before I uploaded it, the script worked just fine. Maybe I made the mistake of typing in the wrong thing to write. Or maybe when I uploaded the animation, something happened to it so that the ethical decision wouldn't work.
