By reading Unspun it has opened my mind to the challenges America faces in being deceived my the media around us that it influences our opinions to such vast degrees. For example, a political party might win an election due to an incorrect commercial that slams the other political party. This happens with controversial issues such as tax cuts because one party says the other party will not have tax cuts which may be false they may just be not changing the tax rate. Americans are especially gullible to certain commercials that are based on eye candy. Although many of these commercials are not harmful, they are situations in which believing somebody would be harmful. This happens with stem cell research and a man who believed a “doctor” that stem cells would relieve his ALS which is completely false. In order to become less fooled by deceptive tricks the media uses America needs to stay informed and anything that may seem “too good to be true” or slightly false sites such as Factcheck.org should be used to credit the information or disprove it.
