Unwanted Illness
It’s no secret that children require many resources, and with that, raising a child is a huge responsibility. The stress is sometimes unbearable, even more-so if the child was unwanted in the first place. “Data from 44 studies showed women with an unwanted pregnancy have a higher incidence of mental health problems in general.” As unfortunate as this situation may be, we must focus on the key-term: “unwanted.” Many have assumed that this directly relates to abortion, but Dr Roch Cantwell declares this “evidence” to be both “imperfect and conflicting.” On the other hand, a spokeswoman for the ProLife Alliance argues that the “politics of abortion” often distracts from the assessment of “epidemiological evidence.” Regardless of all different views and opinions, there is one notion that remains consistent: “What is clear is that having an unwanted pregnancy has implications for people's mental health and wellbeing.”
