Introduction
EVOKE has been open 3 weeks and already has more than 13802 members. The game will last 10 weeks, concluding on May 5th 2010 with a new quest and a new mission unlocked each week. In the first mission agents were asked to, In the first mission of evoke agents were asked to imagine where will I been living in 2020 and how am I changing the world on daily basis.
The first thing I looked at was this 90-second trailer: EVOKE trailer from Alchemy on Vimeo. I thought the trailer was interesting because in this trailer Jane McGonigal explained the difference that this video game was doing but also the impact that the game had on us and she explained certain steps that people feel when they are playing a game any type of game I didn't even know there was an epic win which means that when your about to win the mission and you finally win its unbelievable to you.
I don't like the way the story is presented, because I don't like comic book type to read so I find it very boring and I don't want to finish reading them and the only thing I do is listen but I feel what I listen goes in one ear and out the other.
Quests
Each week, the agents are asked to perform a certain mission,the first mission we were asked to focus on simple tasks as secret codes, to choose a hero and imagine where you will be in 2020. When we were finally introduced to the game, and we had a basic idea of what we were suppose to do. Alchemy asked that on the second and third mission we had to come up with ways to help our community new ideas on how to conserve electricity. My favorite quest so far was the third one. This quest was Learn 3 because, this quest was to learn who else is inventing creative, sustainable ways to power our everyday lives.
Each week's mission has three parts: Learn, Act, and Imagine, and so far I'm enjoying the Imagine ones the most because... I am able to express my ideas and also imagine how my life would be in ten years 2020. My best mission so far has been the third week, the one about Imagine 3 it was to tell a creative story about how're you're celebrating a special day in 2020. The theme of the mission was to imagine something that we could use everyday that could be powered differently.
The learn part of this mission was to learn who else is inventing creative sustainable ways to power our everyday life we were to find a power player that's working on an amazing electricity or sustainable energy project. As you can see in my blog post for this part of the mission, I learned that a man name Fabio rosa was provided a new way for electricity for families with low income.
The act part was to increase the food security of at least one person in the community this was my favorite act mission. Again, please take a look at my blog post. For this challenge I had to come up with ways to help in my community an idea was for people to cook food and bring them to food shelter and that it shouldn't only happen in thanksgiving but it should happen more often.
For imagine we were asked to tell a creative story about dinner in the year 2020 from what we learned about food security. Now take a look at my blog post for this task. What I like most about what I put up was how my life would be in 2020 and that I imagined I had kids and a husband. This made me think about how my future would be in a couple of years and how much I would love my life if it was really like that.
My thoughts about evoke
When I first started playing Evoke, I thought what does this have to do with english I mean it's a game and since when did english class became the topics of games.Now, I'm wondering when this game is going to end and how far are we from finishing this game that I can't really stand anymore maybe it's because of so much blog posts. I don't find this game interesting at all I am doing it so I could get a passing grade in my english class that bascially the only reason why I am playing this game.
Some have even wondered if Evoke is a game. I think that the game evoke is just like the ayiti game where the family had to survive for four seasons straight and we couldn't let the family members die we had to take in consideration their health, education, and happiness. A game that is very different from evoke is mario's bro the only thing in the game is to beat the boss and save the princess from the bad guy. We watched a TED video in which Jane McGonigal http://www.ted.co/talk/jane_mcgonigal_gaming_can_make_a_better_world.html she explained the type of ways that people feel when they are about to win a game or when they won the game.
I am not looking forward to the next episodes of Evoke, because I am tired of doing blog posts in evoke and also I am just tired logging into the website and reading our mission, I don't know I just don't like this game it bores me a lot and there's nothing interesting about this game I mean even the comic books bore me the only thing I liked about this game was the trailer, I mean the trailer is so interesting that you might want to sign up but as soon as you sign up it's nothing like the trailer.
