Vampires in Dracula vs. Vampires in Twilight
There are several vampire novels. the two I will focus on are Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, and Bram Stoker's Dracula (which the 10th grade has been reading in english). Both books involve vampires, however, they are portrayed as different creatures in both. In Twilight, Meyer changed the convept of what a vampire is to make them seem more human like, and all in all, better than they really are. She did this by gaving the cCullen family be "vegatarian campires" which in the novel, was an inside joke between the Cullen's and Bella. Meyer gave her vampires supernatural poweres, such as superioir strength, which they used for the good, for example to protect Bella from the bad vampires. TThey were described as these exceptionally beautiful human beings, who's skin sparkled in the sunlight an what not, whereas in Dracula, it was completely different. Vampires, such as the Count, have pale skin, sharp sanine teethm, red gleaming eyes, and they live off the blood of humans; they suck the bloog out of innocent victim, slike Jonathan Harker and Lucy Wersterna, and then kill them. In addition, in Dracula, vampires were given serveral limitations which were constantly brought up throughtout the entire novel. They really added something to the plot as a whole.
Although I belive these two novels have boith similarities and difference, there are many people who argue that the two cannot compare. They call Twilight a garbage novel and that in comparision to Dracula, it is bothing but a stupuid book. Although I am a huge Twilight fan, I udnerstand where epoople are comming from. However, I don't thinkits fair to say that it is a garbage novel and that it can in no way relate and be compared to Dracula, because it can. Twilight, along with a lot of otehr tenn books on vampires, evolved from the timless classic Dracula. There are many aspects of both books that are similar. But then again, I understand that it can be said, that in comparision, Dracula, is by far a better book; and I have to agree. I loved Twilight, and I'd definitely say that its up there with my favorite 5 books, but Dracula, does of course have a more complex plot and with all its literary elements, it proves to be a mcuh better novel overall. In saying this, the writing style used in Twilight was really bad.
