Wanting to eat in more healthy ways

Recently in i-Mentor we've been studying the food system. At first I thought that the topic wasn't so important and I didn't think it was what it meant. When I saw the movie Fresh I started to think how healthy our food really is. I know that many people feel that healthy food isn't important. After doing this study i now think choosing healthy food is very important. For example i heard that organic and fresh is better for our healths. One thing that I know for sure about healthy food is that it depends what farm it comes from.

Now I've studied my share of farming and healthy foods, I learned a lot about this topic. What do you believe? Personally, it's funny to me how buying healthy food is both beneficial to farmers and our body's. I did some research on farming.

I came across a quote on the movie “Fresh.” Michael Pollan says, "It is true that local and organic food cost more, it is worth more too.” This movie provided a lot of information and opinions on how people need to change and start eating healthier. Some people felt that the healthier you eat the better. This statement didn't really surprise me all that much, but it did make me feel shocked. This is shocking because people should be wanting to eat healthy, they should think of it as a fun activity.

In another source that I looked at, another person in “Fresh” Diana Endicott says, ”If we just had every person, that shops at hen house, if they would just spend ten dollars a week, I mean that would be such a small percentage of their overall food sales but it would make such a huge statement and have such a huge economic impact.” There was this statement that made me nod my head in agreement with the quote. It was by Diana Endicott. This is so true because The amount of money generated by that would be tripled or quadrupled by what it would brings back to our local economies and our rural areas, which are really dying.

All of this makes me think that of where my food comes from and how fresh it is. It makes me want to eat in healthier ways.
