"We Are Better Than That!!!"
With the 2010 midterm elections just passing, there are plenty examples of political spin. The video below is about Dale Peterson who is running for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner.
As you can see in this video, there are many examples of political spin. When you first see him, you see him on his horse as if he is portraying life of an everyday person just like the people of Alabama; but then, all of the sudden, he's listing all of these "alter egos" as you could call them. He then tells us he was a cop, a farmer, a business man, a marine in vietnam. I can only assume, an everyday person in Alabama, isn't all of those things. He then proceeds to tell us that the agricultural commissioner is very important because he is responsible for $5 billion, and thats the end of that. $5 billion for what? Is he going to just hold onto that and protect it? or will he actually do something with it? He then says "bet you didn't know that. You know why? Because of thugs and criminals." What do thug and criminals have to do with our knowledge of Alabama's money? Peterson then discusses how they're losing three family farms a day, and illegal immigrants are busting in by the thousands. Are the illegal immigrants just charging into Alabama one thousand at a time? Doesn't he mean into America? But don't worry he tells us what his opponents are doing about it, theyre stealing yard signs. What does that have to do with the issues? And better yet, he doesn't even tell us what he is going to do about it, he just proceeds to talk about his opponents facebook page and is mature about it by calling him a "dummy." The best part is towards the end. " We are republicans, we should be better than that," he says as he whips out his gun. This gun to me, is threatening, not reassuring. But apparently, if you don't agree with him, then you dont give a "rrrrip" about Alabama. This ad is so full of political spin it almost seems unreal.
