The issue i chose to illustrate in my game was economic inequality.

I chose to modify the game life with this issue.

In the game you get to choose which paths you want to take but i want to change the spaces to you move depending on how much money you have. I want to change the spaces to different taxes that certain classes of people have to pay or certain public assistance to people that are put on the lower economic class path. I’m going to make the pieces people as opposed to cars.

The requirements for this project are to teach the players about economic inequality, to keep the form and mechanics of life, play with two to five players and be able to be played within a 30 minute time limit.

The constraints are that the new game cannot include or expressions that are offensive to the teacher or other students. The first prototype must be size 9” by 12”. Be ready for play test by October 1st.

Today i sat in the kitchen for about an hour doing some research for the project. I tried to find a good picture of the actual game board to work off of but so far i wasn’t too successful. I did find some research about some plans that went through cause more people of lower economical classes to pay more money. I want to make different paths that depend of you’re income because in the actual game you choose a career and a salary so you travel through different paths depending on how much money you make. My next step is to actually start creating my board and writing down what i want each space to represent. In the actually game the spaces say things like win the lottery i want to make my spaces things like different taxes people of different economical classes people have to pay. I want to make sure to differentiate the path for middle class, lower class and upper class.

Today i did started to annotate the rules of the game. I decided i want to keep the start of the game the same. In the begginning you pick a job and a salary. I did some research and certain occupations and the salaries for each  one. I was succesful in finding some occupatons and  the salaries but i only foun about five occupations and their average salaries. I started to make the cards for the jobs that  i did find.

Wow! Hello Wendy, I think

Wow! Hello Wendy, I think that the game you are trying to create is very nice. I like how you have made a game that incorporates real life situation and makes it easy for teenagers (and if possible kids), to make something out of themselves throughout the game and learn how life would treat them in a fun way. Also, I like how this game is sort of preparing the mind set to get a clue of what it can contain in the future. The game plan you came up with is very unique and it teaches people that a good path would be that of a future with more money. I really do not know how it works, but it gives me the sense that people (youth) would understand how important it is to stay educated and get somewhere in the near future/life.

Your project proposal is very complete. I really like your ideas and I think it will work out to the extent that it will definitely make the objective of the game concerning the issue very conspicuous. Actually, I am making a board game that is also modifying The Game of Life and my issue is also economic inequality. However, I think your entries are lacking pictures and more description of the project should be added. However, I think your project entries are very complete.

I felt that this game concept was rather nondescript, so I cannot give feedback.

Wendy, your game seems well

Wendy, your game seems well developed, i really think you have really cool ideas about your topic. You should actually take some pictures of your work so far and post it up. I think everyone wants to see how it looks so far. well done, keep up the good work

I finished my game today. I changed some of the spaces a little to seperate how many poor people can't afford things they need as opposed to rich people who buy and spend money on things that they want. I made the money and all the career cards with the salary already on them. I wasn't able to make a spinner so to move on the board you have to roll 2 dice.

Second Prototype

i think that my issue and my game fit well together. I concluded this because the game of life without modification has to do a lot with economic status in the game so i didn’t have to modify much. i think that i could represent the issue better by making a few more modifications but i don’t feel the need to change the game or the issue. Some people said that they didn’t learn much but i think that it’s the way i expressed it that people weren’t able to see the issue.

requirements:
-The game must teach players important information about economic inequality.
-The game must use the form and core mechanics of the game of life.
-The game must be playable by 2 to 5 players.
-The game must be capable of being played to completion in 30 minutes or less.
-All game components must be produced using digital production method.
-Writing on the board will be bigger.
-Organize cards
-Make a spinner.

constraints:
-My game may not contain any ideas or expressions that your teacher or peers may find offensive or objective.
-My second prototype must fit in a 9” by 12” manila folder
- My second prototype must be ready for testing by the beginning of class on Monday, October 25th, 2010
-Rules must be 2 pages long
-Game pieces should be heavier.
-Board should have space for cards.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said, but I think two constraints or requirements you should add are that the rules have to be easy to understand and the setup has to be under about 4 minutes.

 maybe you are right, and

maybe you are right, and you should express your issue in a different way so that people understand the topic. other than that, very well done

I feel that these changes

I feel that these changes will make your game more refined and exciting, like something more people would want to play. I feel that you could add requirements that said to make it so that the game has some variety in it, so that people would play it multiple times.

Hopefully in your next

Hopefully in your next prototype you will be able to make your topic stick out more but i thought that it decently expressed your idea.

i think that the image editor i will be using is pixlr. I think that it was the most helpful to me. it was easy to edit the board that i found. It was really easy to use a color to cover over things that i didnt want on the board. i was able to with draw a color and the color over the text in the box so it will be clear when i incorporate my own text. I also tested out sumo paint. i feel thats a good program to make my cards with as it has a variation of colors and i think it has great effects. i think it will create a nice appearance for the cards and money. Also it will make nice game pieces.

i have finished making the baod spaces i just have to add text to them. I edited a photgraph of the baord but i had to combine the two spaces into one because the text wuldn't fit on the small spaces in the photograph i found. I used photoshop to make my board.
