There are two sides of this.

First, there's the claim that we can't feed the poor. I'm not sure that's true. I think we could probably feed the poor AND fund the wars that we are fighting. We need to change our food distribution system to connect more local farmers to poor communities -- even in places like NYC.

Second, there's the funding of war. I think that America should never make it's decision on whether or not to go to war mainly on whether or not we can financially support the actions. We should always make decisions about war on ethical grounds. Is it the right thing to do? Personally, I'm not sure that we should be in Afghanistan (and Pakistan), and we should get out of Iraq already, but I take these positions based on moral grounds, not financial ones.

I feel the same way.  Why they can fund the war but can't feed the poor?

I agree. i think it is not right to say that America is the richest country and the land of dreams when we can't even feed the poor, keep our jobs and keep a roof over our heads.
