What I Liked in Photo Essays
The best example of a photo essay that I saw was taken by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre featured on the Time website. It is called Detroit Reliquary and it documents the ruins of Detroit's abandoned buildings. I liked this example over the other photo essays because I thought it was more focused and all of the shots had easily recognizable characteristics. Some of the others I thought were too loosely strung together.

My favorite photo essay was actually about Barbie turning 50. It documented her life and evolution through out the years. The photo essay really explored how Barbie became such a huge icon. I agree about your comment on the "Detroit Reliquary", it had very powerful images.

I also agree that the "Detroit Reliquary" had very powerful pictures. You could really see how buildings in Detroit looked over the years. They looked all ruined and the paint was peeling off of the ceilings. These images conveyed a great deal of emotion.
I have to agree with you
I have to agree with you about this particular photo essay. I was captured by the great detail of all the different structures. Even though the condition of a lot of the buildings were in a poor state I still think that the images had a beauty to them. Even though many of the buildings were cracked I feel that those added interesting designs and made the sturctures seems more artistic in an abstract way.
