When I Grow Up

Ever since I was little I have always had a desire to help people feel better. As a child I never truly appreciated the number of careers that revolve around helping others. I have always had an interest in medicine and the possibility of becoming a doctor.

For the past two years I have been taking a sports medicine class at my high school. It is easily the most interesting class that I have taken. During the first year of the class we became certified in CPR/AED, blood borne pathogens, administering of emergency oxygen, and first aid for the professional rescuer. We also learned about the anatomy of the human body and how to treat and prevent sports related injuries. This year we are working on creating an action plan for when an earthquake hits. We have been trained in CERT and are now training the faculty and staff and some parents in CERT. We have been working with the Great American Shake Out to prepare for a practice earthquake throughout the entire city of Salt lake in April.

A large part of my interest in medicine has come from my sports medicine class. I enjoy learning about the body and how it works and how to treat it when it is injured. My goal is to either go to med-school or go to P.A. graduate program to become a Physician’s Assistant. I would like to work in a field of medicine that involves diagnosing and repairing sports injuries.
