What is the perfect relationship? That is a question often asked. What most people know, but don't want to face is a very simple fact: they're no perfect relationships. Ever. No matter how hard they try, there is always going something wrong. And even then, what good is a perfect relationship if there is nothing to work at? Even a perfect relationship is flawed! Yet still people say that a good relationship consists of communication, just like Tools Schism claims!(song)

That is not the case with Jody and Janie. Jody runs the town, called Eatonnville (I see what he did there!) and Jainie is his wife. Jody promised her a better life, but at every corner, he undermines her. Serves her right, leaving Logan the way she did. If she had any common sense, then she would've known that the best way to leave someone is not to leave them with no pride.(refer back to my last post.)

On page 61, Zora Neale Hurston basically says that Janie feel undermined by Jody. The fifth paragraph proves that too.

"Janie made her face laugh after a short pause... He strode along invested with his new dignity, thought and planned out loud, unconscious of her thoughts"

She obviously feels undermined, and she knows that Jody doesn't know.
