Who officially decides what is made and what is cut in entertainment today ?
With every different entertainment medium there is a different set pf rules and people who enforce them. the literary and music media forms are mostly unregulated by any official system like as seen in film or television. The central commission charged to preside over films in America is the MPAA(Motion Picture Association of America). Founded in the 1960’s ,The MPAA is run by the six major film studios instead of the government.MPAA the has role of inspecting films ready to be released for content and assign a movie rating (PG,PG-13,etc.) to that film. The MPAA can also help cut out certain parts of a film in order for it to get a better rating .If the the film is unable to to be cut and contains a level of content that doesn't agree with the MPAA guidelines it can also be rejected to the general public .Television has a similar system where certain rules of censorship are applied in reflecting the social norms of the period. However, unlike films rules about content, Television censorship guidelines are more flexible and have been broken various times throughout television’s history. The truly unrestrained source of entertainment today is the Internet with no real regulation of censorship in it’s programming or content making it a popular place to express ideas in various mediums.
