You'd Leave Your Pet Behind But You Wouldn't Leave Your Child Behind

I'm learning more about animals and their protectionn right now, and in particular what  I'm wondering about is: Why would people leave their pet behind yet they would never leave their child behind? Animals are just like humans, they have feelings too, and study shows that dogs are more like us than chimps are. As I was reading in my Google Reader, an article, "Pets Wait Out ND Flood in Shelters : Discovery News", Discovery News, March 30.2009 http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/03/30/dakota-flood-pets.html, caught my attention because this article sort of has the same base idea as mine. Why do we treat animals as less, when they are our companions in life? And how can we take better care of them?

I thought this bookmark was pretty interesting. Humans are animals but animals aren't human. I believe that human is just a smaller category under the big, general category called "animal." Under "animals" there are dogs, cats, birds, monkeys and humans. I don't think you'll get what I'm saying since I'm not explaining this properly. Anyways back to the topic, I agree with your title and your view. But there are cases where people leave their children behind, too, which isn't right. I don't think anyone should leave anything or anyone behind. But anyways, I agree that we should treat everything with equal care..

I also think that people take care of their children more than their pets because they have more affection towards their children than their pets. I mean like a mother went through the pain of birth to see her child but pets are just bought anytime. I don't think that's really the case but whatever.

I'm not making any sense in this comment lol.. My ideas are all tangled up.... ~!!@#$%!#@% grr

hey...
Well i agree with Seong Ae in the sense that people also leave behind their children although they may be less likely to compared to an animal. It may be true because humans are more attached to their own child since they gave birth to it rather to an animal which they can adopt/buy.
i like your main concept and it does make me wonder.

i agree with Seong Ae since i also think that we are really no better than other animals, but we value other humans more. for example animals will be more inclined to look after other animals of the same kind, since they are closer to them. i think thats the case with mothers. their child is part of them, but the pet is just something they bought and grew to love.
