Youth (and teacher) Voices - May 25, 2015

Discussion
May 25, 2015

This is the second Youth Voices email newsletter. If you have anything you'd like to share with other YV teachers, email us! In the meantime, here are some items of interest:

  • Dawn Reed's students are conducting some surveys and would love your students' input (http://youthvoices.net/category/keywords/surveyMay2015)!
  • We welcome Lara Trale from Oakland High School to Youth Voices. Her students are writing about If Beale Street Could Talk and other topics and would love your comments.
  • Next week on Teachers Teaching Teachers (http://edtechtalk.com/ttt), Dawn Reed will be talking with a group of us about how she organizes her classroom around reading books together. As a reminder, TTT meets every Wed. evening at 9pm ET/6pm PT.
  • The National Writing Project's Connected Learning MOOC (CLMOOC) will be happening from June 18-August 2. You can sign up at http://clmooc.educatorinnovator.org/2015/.
  • Some of us are also thinking about having some students talk and write together online this summer. If you have students who might be interested in this, email us.
  • In brainstorming how our classrooms might work together next year, the elections are on a lot of our minds. We'd love to hear your thoughts as we start thinking about how to tie the elections into YV through annotating text, looking at propaganda, and other methods.

These newsletters are also sent by email (let karen@k12opened.com know if you want to receive by email and aren't already) on Facebook, and on Twitter.

Regards,

Paul, Chris, and Karen
