With Vancouver hosting the 2010 Olympic Games, Canada has expected to dominate the podium and the medal count. The Canadians supposedly have an advantage, a home 'field' advantage, which is hard to overcome. As with every sport, a home field advantage gives the home players an upper hand, not only with the fan base, but in knowing every secret of the playing field.

This year the 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver, Canada where usually there are mild winters, but this year this especially warm weather is causing many problems.  The extreme shortage in snow is causing the most heartache on Cypress Mountain where six snowboarding and skiing events will take place.  The weather forecast is not looking good as it looks like there will be no new snow before the start of the Olympics on February 12th.  The Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (known as VANOC) is already moving on to Plan B in order to bring the snow to Vancouver.  While the weather is too warm in Vancouver to make enough snow that is needed, officials say that isn't a problem because they are going to truck it in from other higher elevations.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and many more have been injured and displaced from their homes. The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake, and Haitian Interior Minister believes that up to 200,000 have died as a result of the disaster, exceeding earlier Red Cross estimates of 45,000- 50,000 several prominent public figures are among the dead.

Recently in English we have been learning abut the 2010 Haiti earthquake. At first, I thought what the hell is going on? When I saw the pictures and videos shown by my teacher, i felt really bad for the people who lost their lifes and the ones who are homeless now. I know that many people don't care about this issue but it is their point of view and life. If people do not want to help the poor and helpless people I do not really care. If i could help in someways i will. I do not know how it feels to be homeless. But i know the pain of losing someone close to you and someone you loved. I lost my grandfather, while i was in New york and he was in India.

Recently in English we have been doing a study about what went on in Haiti.  At first I thought that it was a regular earthquake and that it was not going to be something that would go and be something like Katrina maybe something as much as like the tsunami where it was very important but not that important as in fro the long run.  I thought that maybe the country would receive much more attention from other Caribbean countries int he world and that they would be getting our help but not as much as to be sending ten thousand soldiers in to their country and completely taking control of the situation.  I also did not know what was going on with the relations that both America and Haiti have had in their past.  I did not know about what ex president Bush had done, when he went into he country took the president and send him to South Africa to then send in some troops that we had into the country without any consent or any permission from anyone.  It was as if they own the island and the country belongs to the united states.  When I saw the interviews and heard the news and learned some history from other people that were telling us what really happen

Recently in English class, we have been studying about the earthquake in Haiti.  At first, I thought that it was just a simple natural disaster in a country.  When I saw the "Democracy Now" video about Haiti, I started to think that there was more to it then just the natural disaster.  I know that many people feel that there is nothing we can do, and that America shouldn't help out.  After doing this study, I believe that there is a lot that America did that caused this disaster to go overboard.  For example, I read an article talking about how America caused Haiti to become this financially crippled.

One thing that I know for sure about the Haiti earthquake is that there is much to learn and think about from this event.  Now I've studied my share of Global and Earth Science and I can say that one, there has to be a cause for a country to become as weak as Haiti was, and two, earthquakes are one of the most dangerous natural disasters anyone can face.  It is unpredictable, and there is nothing anyone could have done about it, specially in a poor country like Haiti.

Recently in the 2010 Haiti Earthquake we've been studying about what is being done to help the people of Haiti and what the United States "owes" Haiti in effort to give them aid. I came to learn more of what is happening in Haiti as the media updates its viewers and I feel that all of us need to start acting benevolent and try to help in some way. Even if you can't give money at least think about how to help in another way. I am sad that this horrible tragedy happened to the city of Port-au-Prince, given the poverty level Haiti already has this just buried them even more into poverty problems. However I am glad that there is some form of help that arrives little by little everyday and the people who are there right now are trying to help each other as much as they can. My heart goes out for them.

Recently in English we have been studying the 2010 Haiti earthquake and all the problems it has caused. At first, I thought this was a massive attack because I heard the word earthquake and thought of all the lives that must have been lost. When I heard about theirhealthcare I figured they are going to have a hard time taking cared of all the wounded and injured people, as well as the dead.

One thing that I know for sure about ELA is that sometimes its hard to focus and stay on topic because it can get boring at times, but I just do what I have to do. Now I studied my share of culture I believe that the Haitians are very close to each other and care for each other very much. An example would be an artist namedWyclef jean. Wyclef is not only a artist but he is also a humantarian because he has started a charity for his people and his mother country of Haiti and has raised well over a million dollars. Personally, it`s crazy to me that the U.S owes Haiti billions of dollars and we are now in a recession and money is tight even for us.

Recently in English, we've been studying about the earthquake that occurred in Haiti. At first, I did know much about it because I don't watch the news but when they talked about it during muster, I was surprised and I looked into it. I started to asked people who knew about it and it just so happened that we were going to cover that topic. It surprised me that it was 7.0 magnitude. Afterwords, then some aftershocks occurred to shake things up even more that were 6.0 magnitude.

One thing that I know for sure about the earthquake that devastatingly shook Haiti was that everyone around the world is going to Haiti to help out. Not only are soldiers from China and America but citizens from all over the place are donating money, food, medical aid and water. Some even took themselves there to give a helping hand to treat patients.

Recently in English we have been studying the 2010 Haiti earth quake. At first I felt a little sad for the Haitians, but not overcome by emotions. I felt angered  that it is taking so long for help to reach there, shouldn't countries have some type of earthquake support system, or something if a disaster like this occurs? Also, I also feel a bit angry about how the news covers the story. They call the people who are looking for food and water "looters" and making the Haitian people seem like savages. After reading the numerous articles in Diigo about Haitian history, and watching a few videos on Democracy Now, I came to understand the situation even more, and, like others around the world, am disgusted by how America is handling this situation.
