This past weekend, I watched the movie called "2012". The motion picture is about the "end of the world". I was not very impressed with the actual movie, but I found myself to be interested in the actual theories behind the predicted "end of the world". So I did some research.

The most commonly held belief on this subject is that the Mayan calendar ends in the year 2012, and some scientists even predict that there will be a galactic star alignment that will cause devastating natural events to occur that will change the world forever. This theory did not appeal to me, because I also read that many other scientists believe that there was a miscalculation with the Mayan calendar and the actual "2012" year is actually 2208.

There are many legends that say the world is going to go through a dramatic change in 2012. These legends have come from mostly the ancient Mayans but many people have already agreed to them. Many people say that the world is going to end or that the milky way will crash into the Andromeda galaxy but things like these wouldn't be considered a dramatic change. Some people find these things scary but others urge over the believe-ability of these stories. Even the people who believe these things argue over what is supposed to happen. There is no way to know until it happens.

What is so fashionable about trying to figure out the end of the world? It's happened throughout history, and so far, all past dates have failed...At least as far as I'm aware. There are, however, two coinciding dates for the end of the world that seem to speak more loudly because they coincide:

I've heard a lot of talk about the world ending. The most common being: "It's Conference, it will either be raining or the world will end." And I always use to laugh those foolish predictions off. The most recent one is 12/12/12. Still, I have a hard time believing this is going to be the end of the world. And it wasn't until I was told of the prophet Nostradamus that I actually started to become worried. Nostradamus lived in the 1500's and my father was telling me that he predicted the world to end during the year 2012. At first I just shook it off, until he informed me Nostradamus predicted the 9/11 attack.

"In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb",
The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"

- Nostradamus 1654

It seems like the movies Armageddons and Deep Impact are the stuff of fantasy, but that might not be the case in a couple of decades.
