Should people stop using symbols or saying words just because they have a bad or good history?
The word nigga is used a lot and there are strong opinions about it. I personally say the word, and almost everyone I'm around says the word also. I'm a Black American/Dominican/Eqadorion, and I don’t feel offended, because to me and others the word symbolizes friend or some one that’s close to you.
It is ignorant people who use the word to offend or put down a race or group of people. It is also ignorant people who say it has a history behind it, so they assume the person using the word is trying to offend someone when that isn’t the case.
So why not say or wear things from the past as long as you know its history, and you're not following the beliefs behind it, but trying to make better use of it? If it was originally for negative reasons why not change those reasons to positive? History is taught so people know what happened in the past. So take the knowledge of the past (both negative and positive achievements) and make something new out of them to have a better future. If you stay stuck in the past, you will have no future.
