Here is a serious issue which was recently shared by a very concerned mother. Pam Zingeser says that her daughter Julie is obsessed with texting. Julie texts while at home, in the car while going to school, and at school. Pam is really getting worried as lately her daughter even brings her

phone every time she goes to the bathroom! Pam had the greatest shock of her life when one time she received her phone bill and learned that her daughter had sent and received a whopping 6,473 text messages!

I'm an agent on Evoke, and my work on Evoke over the past four weeks (weeks 4-7) had interesting topics to learn about but i wish we didn't have to write so much. It's not much of a game...It's an excuse for us to write a whole lot, and honestly most people aren't being inspired, including myself.

Introduction

Political Issues Vs. World Issues

In the game "Argument Wars" the main goal is to to prove your side of an argument in the Court of law . Throughout the course of the game you have to convince the judge that your side of the case is the one that is most lawful and supportive. The arguments mainly deal with political issues that affect many people. In the game "Urgent Evoke" the whole main idea is based on world issues and it's your job to help solve them in some way. Some of the world issues the game focues on is water crisis, food security, and currency around the world.

What's different between these two games is that one mainly focuses on political issues and the other one focuses on issues around the world. In "Argument Wars" the way to solve problems is throught court trials and providing evidence , but in "Urgent Evoke" the way to solve world issues is to gather other people and see if they can help you make a difference. This is a way that both of these games are different from each other.

A few weeks ago, I became an agent in a global network of social innovators. Urgent EVOKE: A Crash Course in Saving the World opened on March 3, 2010. It’s a social network, a game, a , and a learning experience all in one. It was designed and is directed by Jane McGonigal for the World Bank Institute.

Over the break i had the pleasure of playing a game called Oilagarchy. In Oiligarchy you had to  find and take the oil from different countires, while still keeping the value of oil to demand up, if you fell to far behind you were fired. Sound easy enough. not, it was really not only did i feel moaraly wrong playing this game little riots broke out that i had to put out, presidential races came up and i  had to decide who to support and hope to God that i picked the right person. And that they were pro oil. If all that doesnt sound bad enough then its about to get worse because as time went on bills for or against oil were passed which affected my money which affected whether or not i could explore and find more oil to not get fierd. In the end iwas tierd and stressed and i felt dirt beacae i had been so enthused in the thought of getting money and winning i almost forgot how wrong it was. but thank god i was fird and i snapped out of it i loved the game but wouldnt play it agian in fear of becoming a little too happy to put down a riot or to suck the earth dry of its natural reasources.

Changing the world step by step with Evoke.

The name Tiger Woods is a name, that for the most part, is recognized by people of all ages. Before November 27, 2009, it was the name of the best golfer in the world and the name of a role model to hundreds of thousands aspiring athletes. After that date, it became a name that was recognized because of controversy. The image of Tiger Woods that everybody had in their heads of a true competitor who was well-spoken and was living the dream with his wife and children, was shattered. Tiger was involved in some activities that he chooses to categorize as, "Personal," but the news has brought a good deal of it out into the open. With respect to the fact that we do not know the true story to this whole incident, the best way to categorize what we know would be: dishonesty and unfaithfulness. For a month or so, Tiger's mistakes were aired all over the news and sports channels. Like any other celebrity incident, the media played it up, the nation watched on the edge of their seats, and then it slowly died away and was moved to the back of everybody's brain.

A horrific event happened on January 12, 2010. The Haitian city of Port-au-Prince underwent a severe earthquake with a scale of 7.0 and it was the biggest and worst earthquake they have ever endured in the past dew decades or more. The country is very poor and given the tragedy that they just endured they are buried more into poverty than they already were. Help needs to be sent and this needs to be done quickly. However, as much as I want this to happen so much their is a problem.

I was reading an article on Wikipedia called "2010 Haiti Earthquake", (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Haiti_earthquake) and I read that the structure of the city is so damaged that they fear if any help comes in it might create more damage and buildings can fall apart and kill even more. Also, the Haitian city is in so much chaos I can't imagine how crazy it must be for everyone there.

On December 3rd my principal wrote a memo. She said that an example of a disturbing behavior that I have encountered is "punching or kicking holes in walls." When I read this part of the memo I was sort of surprised at this behavior. I did notice some strange holes on the walls in the stairwells. I did not know that one of the students did that. I only have a couple ideas on trying to fix this behavior. The first idea is completely changing the stairwell walls by adding a material that is more sturdy. The second idea I have is to try to find the person/people creating these holes and putting them in anger management classes when found.

I don't really want to grow up because ofcourse someday we will die and nolonger be in this world which is so sad. I would like to grow up but i have a feelingthat the world will end like in 2012. I really don't want to die and be out of the world. S thats why in life we have to do everything nice and good.

Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been the issue of school and online bullying in today’s society. I remember a speaker who came to our school talking about it last year. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that bullying isn’t a big deal, its just kids being kids. From what I have heard, bullying is no laughing matter. For example, I read a story online at telegraph.uk.com about a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide after getting cyber bullied by a girl’s mom on My Space. The mother had created a fake profile of a 16-yr old boy named Josh.  They exchanged messages for 6 weeks before “Josh” ended the relationship because he heard she was cruel. The 13 year old hung herself in her closet the next day. One thing that I know for sure about bullying is that it can really affect a person and can hurt them for years to come.

Recently, I read the book The Amazon Papers by Beverly Keller.  The main character, Iris is very different from most girls it seems and I thought that was interesting

Christopher, the main character in The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time, by Mark Haddon, lives next to the a married neighbor and the dead dog was on their lawn.

"That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered.

"They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America- they will be met."   --Obama's Speech

I enjoy the idea of writing about subjects that I'm interested in and having others read what I write. It helps me become a better writer, when I'm constantly wondering how my audience will react. It is also helpful that a younger crowd is reading what I write, because when I write a paper for school, it is very different than something I would write for a friend of mine.

Here's a way for you to begin a research project with another student:

1. Write (Google Doc) 10 questions you have relating to the world and 10 relating to yourself.

2. Pretend you could drop your least favorite class and do an independent study on one of your questions/topics.

Go here: http://www.letters2president.org/
  1. Find a letter that you would like to respond to, and read it.

So, I'm not so sure how qualified I am to talk about this topic, since I'm only just getting a grasp on how the economy works, and its very complicated, but that gives me a sense of just how enormous this downturn is. I digress. Anyways, what I found. Here goes:

Barack Obama's economic plan:
