A horrific event happened on January 12, 2010. The Haitian city of Port-au-Prince underwent a severe earthquake with a scale of 7.0 and it was the biggest and worst earthquake they have ever endured in the past dew decades or more. The country is very poor and given the tragedy that they just endured they are buried more into poverty than they already were. Help needs to be sent and this needs to be done quickly. However, as much as I want this to happen so much their is a problem.

I was reading an article on Wikipedia called "2010 Haiti Earthquake", (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Haiti_earthquake) and I read that the structure of the city is so damaged that they fear if any help comes in it might create more damage and buildings can fall apart and kill even more. Also, the Haitian city is in so much chaos I can't imagine how crazy it must be for everyone there.

On December 3rd my principal wrote a memo. She said that an example of a disturbing behavior that I have encountered is "punching or kicking holes in walls." When I read this part of the memo I was sort of surprised at this behavior. I did notice some strange holes on the walls in the stairwells. I did not know that one of the students did that. I only have a couple ideas on trying to fix this behavior. The first idea is completely changing the stairwell walls by adding a material that is more sturdy. The second idea I have is to try to find the person/people creating these holes and putting them in anger management classes when found.

I don't really want to grow up because ofcourse someday we will die and nolonger be in this world which is so sad. I would like to grow up but i have a feelingthat the world will end like in 2012. I really don't want to die and be out of the world. S thats why in life we have to do everything nice and good.

Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been the issue of school and online bullying in today’s society. I remember a speaker who came to our school talking about it last year. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that bullying isn’t a big deal, its just kids being kids. From what I have heard, bullying is no laughing matter. For example, I read a story online at telegraph.uk.com about a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide after getting cyber bullied by a girl’s mom on My Space. The mother had created a fake profile of a 16-yr old boy named Josh.  They exchanged messages for 6 weeks before “Josh” ended the relationship because he heard she was cruel. The 13 year old hung herself in her closet the next day. One thing that I know for sure about bullying is that it can really affect a person and can hurt them for years to come.

Recently, I read the book The Amazon Papers by Beverly Keller.  The main character, Iris is very different from most girls it seems and I thought that was interesting

Christopher, the main character in The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time, by Mark Haddon, lives next to the a married neighbor and the dead dog was on their lawn.

"That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered.

"They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America- they will be met."   --Obama's Speech

I enjoy the idea of writing about subjects that I'm interested in and having others read what I write. It helps me become a better writer, when I'm constantly wondering how my audience will react. It is also helpful that a younger crowd is reading what I write, because when I write a paper for school, it is very different than something I would write for a friend of mine.

Here's a way for you to begin a research project with another student:

1. Write (Google Doc) 10 questions you have relating to the world and 10 relating to yourself.

2. Pretend you could drop your least favorite class and do an independent study on one of your questions/topics.

Go here: http://www.letters2president.org/
  1. Find a letter that you would like to respond to, and read it.

So, I'm not so sure how qualified I am to talk about this topic, since I'm only just getting a grasp on how the economy works, and its very complicated, but that gives me a sense of just how enormous this downturn is. I digress. Anyways, what I found. Here goes:

This site claims that it "connects you to the 2008 presidential candidate that represents your beliefs the best."

We are going to find the intersection between your "10 self and 10 world questions" and the issues that you will encounter on this site.
