It seems like the recession is getting better because my parents plumbing shop is doing better. We have been getting a lot of good work lately. So things have been better for my family. However my uncle, Scott just got laid off so Im not sure how things are going for other people in the country. Is the economy different in other states or is it the same across the country? People say this has been the worst economical time sense the Great Depression.

According to Newsweek the economical is showing signs of getting better. Growth was fast enough to produce jobs at higher incomes, But it did not generate inflation. A trade group for small firms, found no net job cuts the first time thats happened since April 2008. In 1991 consumers spending and housing accounted for 70% of GDP, By 2005 it was at 76%. Most families over borrowed, over spent and under saved which led to the trouble where in now. Upper income family's where also scared as there stocks fell and there housing values clasped and there jobs vanished. Housing values are coming back slowly and layoffs have subsided to pre-recession levels.

The Corridor Park Garden is a community garden across from my school which is prominently composed of Korean senior citizens. Despite the title "community garden" its painfully obvious that the garden is used by by Koreans in Flushing. However, anyone can join. I'd imagine they wouldn't be able to deny someone access to a "community" garden. Some people in the garden however do wish to have different people joining the garden. That was a little briefing about the people, and the garden's contents cannot be forgotten or overlooked. The garden is filled with vegetables and plants.

Recently we've be been studying nature writing. We had to write about one of the plots, a rectangle box of plants and dirt. The purpose of nature writing is to just write about what every nature tells you. I tried to write about a tree that was very interesting to me, and make that area where the tree was my plot.

I am a senior in high school. I’ve noticed that many of my teachers are upset about the number of teacher layoffs in the State of California.  I know some things about the layoffs, especially since my mom was a teacher for another school district. She was one of the victims of a layoff.  I want to know more about how many teachers in all are being laid off in California.

Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been currency and happiness, is it possible for money to bring you true happiness. I remember my mother  talking about it when I was younger when I used to tell her I wanted to be wealthy, but she used to just say money is not everything and I never questioned her about it them times. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that money is not everything just as my mother would say and some would even go to say that money may be the root of all evil and it is what is what’s wrong with the world today. From what I have heard, So far I have came to the understanding that some people are just as happy without riches or some type of currency just as those with it For example, I heard that some people who have it then lose it are more likely to say money equals happiness. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true.

Welcome Back :)! Haha so yeh if you read my other post about community service this is the continuation. Maria had sent a e-mail to the Zani's Furry Friends center which was two days ago on a Saturday around 6 p.m and they told us to go at 12 a.m to Lex. Ave which is in Manhattan for a event and they wanted us to bake cookies and brownies. I was mad -__- they expect 4 12-13 year olds to go the next day to the event, we had to ask out parents first xD Anyways there were no way to go there, well yeah train or w.e but my parents are -__- uh there horrible, just to over protected & so is Maria's and Kayla's we couldnt contact Rashel :l Anyways we needed a ride to the event but there was no one to take us there, so were planning on going next Sunday but we have to plan on how to get there. I wanna go :(

Dear Money & Happiness - Newsweek First :

I enjoyed  "Money & Happiness - Newsweek.com," because it help me see that money meant a lot in the world, but its not everything. Some people are very satisfied with there living arrangements being poor.

Well my advisory is doing a community service project. Not like the other advisory's, my advisory made groups of four and each group chose there own helpful thing to do. In my group it is Rashel, Maria, Kayla and myself. Were going to help out at a shellter for animals. Were going to raise money by selling chocolates in TYWLS & out in our neighbor hoods. My group still hasnt found out where the money will go as in which shellter or where we will voluneteer. Next friday or saturday my group is going to meet up and go sell the chocolates, we are all pitching in for 10-15 dollars for the chocolate which we will buy in casco :) Were going to buy about 3 chocolate boxes and try to sell them all. I can't wait its going to be very fun, well as I see it in. Especially since were going to work with animals and i love animals <3 im excited xD Well yeah i was just letting you guys know about my community service project xD wish me luck ? :)

I've never been a fan of  video games. I think the only time I've played a video game was at my friends house with her brothers.  I enjoyed playing the game , just never had enough money to purchase a game box after the other got out of style. Besides my mother believed that video games were  bad and would distract my sisters and I from our main priority which was school. It was a pain for me to do my homework as it was , so having a game box would just further discourage me to do well in school.

Not all games are the same. Some video games are played for fun, and others are more conceptional . Chess is a perfect example of a game that's more strategic then it is fun.  It requires a lot thought be put into it, very different from a shooting game; were if you see your enemy you aim  and simply fire with your control. I'm not saying that its easy to play  games in general, all games require  a even a slightest  thought.  Not to long ago, my English teacher asked us to play a game called Ayiti: The Cost of Life, although the game seems tedious, it teaches you survival skills.

As May gets closer and closer, there is a little bird whispering in almost all seniors ears "where are you going to go for your senior trip?" I know this question has come up many times in the past couple months, more now than at the beginning of the year. It is the trip everyone looks forward to from the day they start high school. It is all about having one last "hoorah" with the friends you have become closest with.
During this economic struggle, I find myself wanting to save as much money as possible. I feel like its not all about going to the most expencive place you can go. The trip should be cost effective and you should be able to have a little spending money at the place you go to. If I can find a cheap exotic place to go then I will, other wise I could settle with camping in the mountains for a week and goofing around at a lake and hiking. It makes sense to have fun and not go to the place where everyone else goes to.

Recently in English we've been studying the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. At first, I thought about the many lives that were lost in the earthquake and many more that might still be missing. When I saw a Democracy Now video about the issue, I started to think about how good life is for me and how I can't take it for granted because it can easily be taken away. I know that many people might feel the same way, and others might not care because they think they have seen this before. For example I read a post by a kid that said that the Haitian Earthquake wasn't the worst disaster and he doesn't know why people are caring so much.

I don't feel that the US deficit is justified. If we have a deficit it shouldn't be based on war ot money that we have to owe back to people. We shouldn't have a deficit at all. I mean if were as strong as we say we are then we should be on top of our game. Why do we have to have holes in our pockets and people grabbing our money as they go along. This is crazy.

People are becoming homeless just because of this. PEople are getting laid off. Its so sad and annoying. We act like we don't even have enough money to house our homeless and helpless. If we have enough money to put into the damn war, why cant we have enough money to give to the people that need it the most. Its getting cold outside and many people need jobs and places to stay.

With the Christmas season approaching, I always wonder why there is so much hype. Black Friday is one of the most craziest shopping days of the year, and it happens the day after Thanksgiving. If there is one holiday I feel bad for it would be Thanksgiving because it is overshadowed by Christmas. Black Friday gets so much hype because people have started to associate material wealth with Christmas day. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy receiving presents, but the real fun of Christmas for me is spending time with my family. The people who really suffer during Christmas is parents. In a difficult economy like today, parents are feeling financial pressure more then ever, but there is no slack on advertisements for Christmas. Children see massive amounts of ads and pressure their parents to purchase the same amount of gifts they have received in years past. New creative ways of advertising have just caused more chaos to the holiday season with ads being posted on social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter. This puts parents in a bind because they want to please their kids, but there is simply just not enough money.

My main big question is If schools had little fundings what essentials would the students be given?

Schools around the world don't get every single thing they want. They're not all funded and rich, with big rooms. If a school had little funds what essentials would the schools chose to utilize their money on? I think that food in schools would be a priority, but not the top priority. Teachers getting paid is the top priority of what schools should spend their money on. Without a teacher there would be no school. I think there are many important things schools should spend their fundings on. Books and chalkboards and those tools and machines dont seem very important when it comes to school, only the teachers are, because schools are needed to learn. There are many perspectives on what schools should spend their money on. The main essential in my opinion would be a teacher.

What does the government do to support schools in villages?

Reflection: I wonder what the government actually does to support every citizens educational needs.  The government is in charge of a country and its people.  Everyone deserves an education and sometimes in poor places like villages in India they don't get the best education. Most schools in India work due to the people in the village (like adults and parents.)  They solve their own problems and make sure the kids get hte best education possible.  The government really doesn't do anything when supporting a villages education needs.  In India villages are on their own to make sure the people get the best education.  I feel the least the government can do is give towns in places like India some money and support.  They shouldn't all have to work together without any support from the government.  It's a lot of work for the government but its the least a government can do to support a country.

A College Education

Managing money has been a problem for me for as long as I can remember. My allowances were always limited, and there were so many things I had to have. Even when I had a job and made some extra money, there were even more things I had to buy. So I've been interested in saving/managing money as well as controlling my spendings. I've recently quit my job, and the same problem seems to be arising again; I have little control of how much money I spend every day.

So what's the underlying problem for most people when it comes to managing money? First thing is even though they know they want to start saving, most people are reluctant to start immediately. They think it makes them look too frugal to chase after a few dollars.

Over the past year I have been searching for which colleges are best for me. It is so hard to decide on one or the other because each school has so many unique things about them. This decision could make or break my upcoming career, however it depends on how much I am willing to push myself at which ever college I choose.
I feel like it is hard to do the college search by myself so I ask my mom and dad for advice. They both give me reasons why I should go to a school, but not all of them are about me. My parents think it would be fun if I enrolled at a school in Southern California, so they would have excuses to go down there more often. Not all of there reasons benefit me as a person. Some advice is good but some is nonsense. I feel like choosing a college should be based on the vibe that you get when you step onto the campus. I have found myself really liking some school because of the surroundings and because of the tours that I have taken. This is the biggest influence on me so far. Many people would say to have your parents help you, but I think they can only help you so much...

Why do people feel the need to spend eight dollars to see a movie, but turn down offers to donate to charities? Why does our society think that it is it ok to pay actors and actresses 10+ million dollars per movie when there are starving people

On one blog about highest paid actresses it says:

"Angelina Jolie and Reese Witherspoon are now asking for $15 million-$20 million per movie." -List of Highest-Paid Actresses

"Yes ,That is our girl. That is good KARMA !!Go Angie and Reese!!" -List of Highest Paid Actresses

But why do they deserve 20 MILLION dollars for entertainment purposes when there are people dying of starvation?

I want to become an actress because i love acting, and i think it's very fun. You get to travel and you receive lots of money. To be an actress you have to now how to act. You should now what mono-log is and a prop, sets and blocking. You may start in a commercial and or then go up a level. You could start in a play. You really don't need to go to school to become an actress. If you have the talent, then you are good. Here is a website that you could log on to if you want to start your career now. www.nustar.com

what i still wonder about my topic is how much do people pay you to do a commercial? How may years does it take for someone to become famous. Also do you get to go on t.v. right away? will i be myself when become famous or will i change.

When I shop though, I don't like to spend A LOT of money. I mean, lately, a bunch of people are jobless, so, I like to spend a fair amount of money when I shop. So, if I go to a high end store, I would get like 1 or 2 items. For example: If I go to Juicy Couture, [love that store!] I would get maybe 2 things, because, you would call that a high end store. But when I really want something, my mom will buy it for me even if the price is a little expensive or expensive. I mean, there are some pretty high end stores I like, but have nothing from there, like: Prada, Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, or Tiffany's. I would love to have about a million items from all those places, but, with the economy these days, it's hard to. And I'm also pretty young to be owning that kind of stuff. Anyway, I would really love to own something from some of those places!
I also use shopping for CD's and Ipods, and stuff like that. Like, for example, I would buy some of my favorite songs on Itunes to such as: Evacuate the Dance Floor by Cascada, Run this Town by Jay-z, Rihanna, and Kanye West, and Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. I love music, and I love shopping so much!

While walking through the Belagio in Las Vegas my dad said, "Look at all these people. It's like there is no economic problem in the country. Every one of them is wasting money." Why do people feel like they need to spend money on useless items when some people don't have homes? Why do they spend money on pointless games when they could donate it to charity and changes lifes?

Will I help my mom become a famous chef?

I wish college was free. Also colleges should give more scholarships to people so we can go to school. What's the point of wasting all your money all for college. If you waste money in college it can make you really poor. It can even waist all your savings. Also why cant college be all the same money. That makes people fell ad because to me that means that that school teaches better just because It more. I really think they should change college free or let all colleges Be †he same money.

I think they should change that about college because it can even turn you poor. Also when, I grow up I have to waste about one thousand dollars every single month on college. I Hope they can change it. For example in a law school like Harvard. Oh my god it can make you poor. Almost you have to give $472.15 a year. In hunter college you have to give $3,927.85. Hunter college in more.(way more). Its a big difference. That Why they should change it. Also they shout give at least scholarships to every college you go to.

College should be free!!!!!

Is it good for a high school student to have a part time job during the school year? I would like to say it is because it keeps us going. Work environments can be stressful but then again, it is very rewarding. Opening your eyes to parts of society that you haven't already can make huge decisions on your life. I think having a job in highschool lets us know what our near future will be like when we are in college, most of us will have to work to pay for food and activities. It will not just all be given to us.

The past two years of High school I have had part time jobs, making new friends and also not having to ask my parents for money every time I walk out the door to get a bite to eat or see a movie. It is much less stressful to know i have money I can spend without having to bother my parents or borrow money from friends.

Having a job in high school aslo will make us manage our time better. We will figure out when we need to do our homework and make sure we give ourselves enough time to finish without rushing through it.
