Oh Advanced Placement tests. What a stressful way to end the year. Here at Judge Memorial, AP courses are more the rule than the exception. Kids take these college level classes out the wazoo- I've met a few who've got six AP tests to look forward to in the next week and a half. It's interesting to me why some even bother, though. Don't get me wrong- the classes can be rather enjoyable, but most pack quite the work load. I'm catching up on three of these posts right now for my AP English class. I finished a four hour AP Spanish test yesterday, and the day before, I sat for seven hours in the same room, pinching myself awake during the US Gov test, and then sweating over Chinese dynasties and the mess of Nigeria during Comparative Politics. I guess it might just be me, but I really don't know why I took some of my AP classes. For instance, AP Gov kicks my butt. I barely kept up with the reading, and maybe contributed to in-class discussions a grand total of two times. I can safely say I got a one on that test (only because I put my name on it), and I know that I will not pursue a career in Government, or Politics, or anything pertaining to those things. At all.

"We need more people in the world living out their dreams, doing what they love, striving for happy, self-actualized lives."

Danny Dance

My friend Danny Dance, a local aspring House DJ, is one of the most hard-working individuals I know whose pursuing his dreams to make a living as a House DJ. I have no doubt that he will succeed, his determination and work ethic is inspiring to me because he's fired up the House scene in Salt Lake City, Utah and he's reached out to so many who are new to both House music and dancing. His site danceisafeeling features free downloads of his own house mixes and continuing this spring his House nights are open to everyone whose eager to learn more about the House culture.

What is the job of a dean?  For all I know, they deal with detentions, absences, punishment, and other jobs assigned to them.  I don't know much about their work load, but it seems to me like they have plenty of time to deal with personal issues of the students, emailing parents, and basically everything their job requires.  I don't want to give out his name, so I will give him the alias of Bob.  Lately, I have needed my dean Bob's assistance in a lot of things involving my parent's permission and I thought that he would be available for all we asked of him.  But I have recently found that he seems to have no time for me what-so-ever, even though I see him lollygagging in the cafeteria throughout the day.  I submitted an extended absence form because I am going to possibly go over the amount of classes we are allowed to miss.  Bob told me that he was going to have a meeting with "Student Services" to decide whether or not I am allowed to miss.  This meeting was supposed to occur Tuesday morning, while my first absence would be Friday.  I needed to drive down to a tennis tournament Thursday afternoon so I n

Throughout my work, I feel as if I have advanced. Not particularly in the taking of photos but rather in editing them and making them seem more interesting. I also have learned how to use photoshop and how to edit my photos in them which allows me to create a whole other image from my original image sometimes. I have more fun now that I can do creative things with my photos beyond just taking them. My theme is graffiti, and I find this theme fun, interesting and easy, but not as a shortcut but rather Graffiti is the most art that I see daily throughout the city. I am able to understand graffiti better because some of my friends that are into it explain it really well to me and I feel as if I understand the art more. Maybe people don't think of Graffiti as art but I believe it is, just a different more realistic kind of art. It is not the type of art you will see in the MoMa but it makes the art seem more alive being on the streets and part of everyday life.

"You who live safe
in your wamr houses,
You who find, returning in the evening,
hot food and friendly faces:
      Consider if this a man
      Who works in the mud
      who does not know peace
Who fights for a scrap of bread
      Consider if this a woman,
      Without hair and without name
With no more strenght to remember,
Her eyes empty and her womb cold
      Like a from in winter.
Meditate that this came about you:
I commend thse words to you.
Carve them in your hearts
At home, in the street,
Going to bed, rising;
Or may your house fall apart,
      May illness impede you,
May your children turn their faces from you."

Leaves Falling Good or Bad?

Fall is a beautiful part of the year, everything is changing colors. Halloween approaches, where you get free candy and you can make a fool of yourself or look like a completely different person. The weather cools down and sometimes snow, it is sometimes a nice break from summer. Also the start of wearing of a sweater, getting cozy on the couch with a nice cup of Calm tea warming up your cool hands. The sunlight shines upon the color changing leaves illuminating them as if they were on fire, and the harvest of vegetables such as squash, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes.

A Pleasant Interview with Christopher Paolini

What else can I do to improve my film direction?

What I noticed most about, "In an Arizona Town, Main Street is a Border Crossing" was how hard Mexican immigrants have to work.  The town of San Luis, Arizona is a station for Mexicans to enter and leave the U.S. from Mexico.  San Luis has a population of 20,000 people, mostly Mexican immigrants.  Mexicans work tediously on bean farms.  They work approximately 14-16 hours a day.  On the other side of the border, which is a four-lane road, is the Mexican town of San Luis Rio Colorado.  It has a population of 150,000.  The man who was interviewed was a Mexican-American named Joel Silva.  He talked about his experience from crossing the border and talked about being arrested and losing everything.  During his time in prison, he found time to read the Bible.  He talked about his job in the bean farm and how long he works everyday.  He loves his native Mexico and even though he's an American citizen, he prefers to live in Mexico.  I learned how hard it is for somebody to leave their country and come to the U.S. for a better life.

Is it good for a high school student to have a part time job during the school year? I would like to say it is because it keeps us going. Work environments can be stressful but then again, it is very rewarding. Opening your eyes to parts of society that you haven't already can make huge decisions on your life. I think having a job in highschool lets us know what our near future will be like when we are in college, most of us will have to work to pay for food and activities. It will not just all be given to us.

The past two years of High school I have had part time jobs, making new friends and also not having to ask my parents for money every time I walk out the door to get a bite to eat or see a movie. It is much less stressful to know i have money I can spend without having to bother my parents or borrow money from friends.

Having a job in high school aslo will make us manage our time better. We will figure out when we need to do our homework and make sure we give ourselves enough time to finish without rushing through it.

I see myself as an average writer, somebody who needs more improvement in writing. I`m pretty good when it comes to grammar and spelling, but I have trouble when it comes to essays. I really have trouble with history essays. I can get a topic on historical figures or geography and I just go blank.

If i work more on my writing, perhaps I will eventually get it and write better..When I write, I like to plan it out with some type of chart or something so that I have something to look back on when I am writing.

Back in middle school, around when I was in 8th grade, I had a writing assignment. I had to write an essay on the geography of a place and describe it in detail. I didn't know what to do because it's social studies and I hated that class as well as the essay itself. I had to sit there blank, trying to think of what to write for this essay but nothing came up. I was thinking for a good fifteen or twenty minutes, and finally, I had something to put down rather than nothing at all.

In an effort to pull young adults into the workforce, against stiff competition from out-of-work adults, President Obama created a program under the Workforce Investment Act to provide summer work and work experience for youth at or below the poverty line between 14 and 24 years old.  Summer is over now, and reports are starting to trickle in.

According to an Associated Press review of state and federal data, almost a quarter of the youths in the program didn't get jobs.

"[Government plans to measure success of the federal program] may reveal little about what program achieved."

Warned auditors commissioned by Congress after a report by the Government Accountability Office stated that many governmental officials, employers and participants felt the program was successful.  Vice President Joe Biden described the Workforce Investment Act as a way to keeps teens out of trouble, while rejuvenating summer work.

What I noticed most about" In an Arizona Town, Main St is a Border Crossing" was that all the people there knew was work. Work was basically there life. They worked for long hours. These people were dedicated to working.

When the podcaster said" We are working form two in the morning until four in the afternoon". He was referring to the lady that wakes up early to serve the workers that wake up to work. I was thinking that a lot of us take having a job for granted but these people take these things serious. I think this is bravery because I don't think that I can work that early for a little money. That would be very tiring to me.

Another part that I found interesting to me was" You can see people all outside to walking, all wet, all dirty, coming late. Yeah because you're working 14-16 hours a day. This stood out for me because usually you have Americans working 9 to 5 or even not working at all but these people take going to work so serious. It goes to show that they really need the money they are getting.

Finding my balance betweeen work and school has been hard the past three weeks.  It has been increasingly stressful even knowing that I must get up before 6:45 am six days a week.  Is it really healthy for teens to have a job while worrying about college applications, standardized tests, early morning meetings, and not to mention homework & tests?

I have loved working in the same coffee shop for over a year now, but for some reason the stress of knowing I have to get up at 5:45 am on a Saturday morning has started making work a "love-hate relationship".  If I were to quit, the strain of questions from my boss and customers could be emotionally tiring in itself.  It seems as though once you enter the workforce there are endless amounts of anxiety to even figure out who can cover your shift so you can take a day off.

There is a lot of things I care about that I write on youthvoices.

Option 2

July's People: Many People had to work really hard and really rough jobs. People were divided into many different categories of work and rest.

It seems like everyday there is something new to worry about. With three regents coming up, finals, and balancing out a social life and work life, worrying can come easy.

I am sure thatg the personal project presentations were interesting but I wasn't here. On the day of the presentations, I was absent because I wasn't feeling well.

I am reading The Chosen by Chaim Potok and I think it's a good book. It's about a jewish boy named Rueven who is fifteen years old and plays softball.

I really like my book which is The Chosen by Chaim Potok. It's interesting. Since I've last read it, I've been thinking about the character of Rueven's father.

Hunger by Lan Samantha Chang: Tian is having difficulties living right now and he is trying to fit into the American customs that he never recognized before.

As I read a few of these recent Whats Up posts, I noticed a constant theme of school and all of the work assigned, which makes people feel depressed and tired.

Today, the mothers of nearly 76 percent of children over the age of 5 are in the workforce, and during workdays no parent is at home or readily available

I'm learning more about news in the world right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: Does the same apply to parents in the United States today?

While I was going through the Google reader site, i found this website: http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/04/01/chicks-mat
