1. After you have done some writing, find a Creative Commons image by searching with your keywords. You can find Creative Commons or public domain images on these sites:
  2. When you find an image, find a small or medium size (no more than 500 pixels) for the image you want to use. (In Flickr, for example, click on the "All sizes" link and find the small or medium size of your image.)

  3. Right-Click (Ctrl-Click on a Mac) and copy the Image Location or Image Source.

  4. Edit your document (either in Google Docs or in Youth Voices), and put the cursor where you want the image to appear.

  5. Click on Insert Image or Insert > Picture, and paste your URL into the proper box.. In addition: make vspace 10, hspace 10, and align the image Left.

  6. Click OK or Insert and Save the document.

  7. At the bottom of your post, write:
Image: "<Title>," photographer, date uploaded. <URL of the page where the image can be found (on Flickr this is the Flickr page where the photographer's name is listed.)>

  8. Edit your document again and write more above and below the image. Make an "image sandwich"
    • On top of the image, above it, write a transition from your earlier writing to the image. Introduce the image to your reader.
    • Then, under the image, write more about your topic or question or inquiry. Freewrite! Go off! What does this image make you think about your question now?
