Students and Teachers can add multiple authors to Discussion Posts

I wanted to make it possible for students to add co-editors to their discussion posts. This pedagogical/user issue is one that I wanted to figure out for a couple of reasons.

First, as Michael Dodes (mdodes) has confirmed, I've been feeling that we need fewer, higher quality discussion posts that are easier to find and engage. From a usability perspective, this seems clear, but I haven't wanted to give up the weekly (or at least frequent) posts that students have been making. Perhaps this follows the blogging model too much. Instead, students can write more complex, multimedia comments to a fewer number of discussion posts, and we can start asking for students to include quotations in their comments.

Part of the direction I think we should go in is to make the initial discussion post a co-created piece (I started this way in the Fall, and Susan has done work with collaborative posts in the past.) And, we should keep upping the expectations for what students might include in a comment, so that their comments are revised, include images or other media, and have quotations to ongoing research as well as the discussion posts.

What I'm good at

Last week's Teachers Teaching Teachers has me getting more and more clear about a few ways to re-design Youth Voices. Let's see if I can lay them out.

I unchecked a box "Use bio for user profiles" that Bill and some of us talked about several weeks ago. (This is in the User Biographies http://youthvoices.net/admin/user/bio )
