This year in writing class

This year has been an interesting one. a lot has happened, a lot has changed. As i take time to think about my academic year, I realize that I am a very lazy and picky student. I honestly believe that I have IDD: Information deprivation disorder, because I allow little unimportant things such as gossip and social drama sidetrack me from doing my work. However; one thing I can say about myself is that i’ve matured quite a bit. One of my goals coming into this school year was to control my temper, and to handle uncomfortable situations in a better way, and I have done that.

Reflection on Negative effects of technology research.

My Topic is the negative effects of Technology on society. Coming into this project i didn’t have any idea what to write about because everything that interest me was something I couldn’t research. The night before the outline of the project was due I came across some pictures of a Tumblr event I went to earlier this year. At that event a man there recited a great poem he wrote about technology, i was also reminded about the conversation we were having about the negative effects of technology in the world, and i decided to write about it.

Maria Robinson once said “ Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending,” meaning that no one can change the mistakes made in one's past, but we can start over, do better and make sure past mistakes aren’t repeated. This quotes key in my life because I as a growing teenager have made a lot of mistakes professionally and socially, some of these mistakes seem inexcusable, and there have been many times where i haven’t known how to move forward, but like advised in the quote, i’ve started over to make things better.

Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder ? or does society say who is beautiful and who is not ?

“Beauty” is subjective, that’s something I learned as I grew up. What beauty really was seemed to change according to whom I asked. Growing up I was a very insecure girl, I always wanted to know who thought I was attractive and who didn’t. Most of the people that found me attractive were my skin color (dark) while those that didn’t were lighter skinned, it really bothered me. I remember growing up the thicker girls would always get picked on, no matter how cool or pretty they were.

YOLO?

“You Only live Once.” That statement seems to be everyone’s impetus to do something risky or daring, but do we really only live once ? Is it possible that after we die we live another life and forget our last one ? I asked myself that question in my writing class, but never took the time to look for the answer. I for one have always believed that we can’t just die at “death”, and i’m clearly not the only one.

Slang!

Something I have been interested in learning more about is slang: where it came from, and why people use it. The majority of the people around me and I use it on a daily basis, but my mother really brought up the topic. My mother always questioned me on why I used slang and I never had an answer for her, being that I didn’t know the answer. I never really took out the time to try to explore, and find an answer because to me my mother’s questions were just a form of her nagging and complaining.
