my food traking connections

Discussion by: avillanueva on Fri, 2016-06-17 15:10 with 0 comments

I read parts of Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Reading about food led me to track what food I eat. So some food I eat is Pb and j, mashed potatoes, bacon egg and cheese (etc).

One part of this book that stood out to me was “ when farmers first planted hybrid corn in the 1930s their yields doubled or tripled”pg 35.This quote means that farmers are genetically modifying corn to produce more kernels.

Let's become a food detective.

I’m learning more about what is in my food right now, and in particular, what I’m reading is The Omnivore’s Dilemma and this caught my attention because this book is telling what I'm eating.

“Many people tell me that the book changed the way they think about eating—and that now they spend a lot more time deciding what to put in their mouths.”
(Chevat and Pollan)

The quote I chose here is basically saying people now know what they are putting in their mouth.

I just started reading “The Omnivore's Dilemma” by Michael Pollan ,and my first impression is “ what is this book about?”Also “how is everything corn in the supermarket?”

One question I have is “ how is this book going to change my life?” What I want the author to explain is how this book is going to change my life. This is important because I don’t want to get a false claim.

I just read a Wikipedia article: Hydroelectricity.

"Hydroelectricity." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. 7 Feb 2016, 23:31 UTC. 3 Mar 2016, 15:26 https://via.hypothes.is/https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroelectricity.
I like this article because this article showed new things about hydro energy. Also I liked how they showed how hydro energy was made.

One sentence from this article that stood out for me is “Hydroelectricity is electricity that is made by the movement of water.”. This is important because we need hydro energy

There Is Only One Way To Destroy ISIS

Discussion by: avillanueva on Wed, 2016-01-13 11:04 with 0 comments

In Yousef Munayyer essay, “There Is Only One Way To Destroy ISIS,” (The Nation. 16 Nov. 2015. Web. 11 Jan. 2016. https://via.hypothes.is/http://www.thenation.com/article/there-is-only-o...), the author explains that the only way to destroy ISIS is by ending the Syrian civil war.

When we consider the issue of ISIS some might wonder why did ISIS start a war with the world? Yousef Munayyer's essay addresses this question because this article explains the one way ISIS could be destroyed, and that one way is to end the Syrian civil war.

I just read a wikipedia article: Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant.

I like this article because this article has a lot of information. I say that because this article gave me a lot of information that I did not know before I read this article. Also this article gave me the information in the simplest way possible.
